Hi, welcome to the forum,
Before you go any further, have a read of the motor setup guides, they are stickied in here:- http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/satellite-faqs.html If you have been able to find hotbird, then you are on your way to get the system up and running properly. You need to start with the motor sent to 1W, and adjust the dish for best signal on 11325H (BBC world), If you get problems send the dish to Hotbird instead using USALS, and adjust for best signal on there. When you are done, send to 1W and repeat. Notes Your pole must be be vertical. The motor elevation must be correct. Robbo ![]() |

hi guys
well hotbird is not on the degree angle it should be - i manually drove the motor a lot further (east or west, can't remember) to find it! the first attempt i got thor and bbc, couldn't get it above 62% and could not get any other satellites at least on hotbird there are more channels! need to sort it though just bought a meter which may help |

cheers will do - would have helped if we had read it first! my mate had a spirit level on the top of the mount as i drilled the holes - should have been down the side of it on afterthought as think it was not prefectly verticle - it has a screw wedged at the bottom of the bracket which i think made it verticle as i got the signal and the spirit level against the bracket/motor vertically was bang on..

hi guys
just started again and got the pole verticle there are 2 readings for dish brackert angle on my dish - one on the left and one on the right and they are not the same - i am using the one on the left as you face the dish but have lost the instructions and want to check this is correct the elevation angle i am getting different readings from different websites e.g. dishpointer which even appears to change it for each satellite you punch in don't know which to trsut - there are more readings in the instructions that came with the motor for lattitude, elevation etc which are again different to the website who do i trust?! also i wanted to start at 1W but i am on 19.2 astra as my receiver sends the dish to 10W for thor not 1 for some reason i am scared to do reset to factory settings as the guy i bought it off i think set it up so all satellites and stations are preset and he patched it HELP!!! stuck need to finish today thanksdan |

you have to go back to some basics. Assuming (a) you are in the Uk and (b) it is a motorised set up:
1. Set motor to your latitude (e.g. circa 51.5 for a lot of people) 2. As a start set your dish elevation (i.e. declination) to between 22 and 25 3. In motorised setting in your receiver enter your latitude and longitude correctly (in decimals, I believe) 4. Then select Thor 1w on your receiver (assuming that is your nearest satellite); ask receiver to go to 1w. At this stage don't worry that you do not get a signal or that the position of motor/dish is not what you expect. 5. Select Thor 1w in advanced setting on your receiver and select 11325 H (BBC World) 6. Then go back outside and try to align the dish; remember when moving dish sideways, you must move the whole caboodle i.e. including motor; it helps if you can see the TV and what is happening to signal level on 11325H or if you have a signal/sat finder; you can also change the dish elevation (declination) setting between the range of 22 and 25. By moving the whole thing including the motor you will correct any initial wrong positioning by the motor/receiver when you find Thor. Hope this helps a bit.
