Default Cable Modem Advice Needed

Hi all,

I stumbled upon this website yesterday looking for help on a Eurovox box and I was very pleased to have found a forum that deals specifically with Cable Modems.

I have looked into this before but gave up as I could find very little info. From what I can gather, my best bet would be to purchase a Motorola SB4100 modem - I don't think it is necessary for me to state why I want one!

So basically, I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what I need to do to achieve the obvious result. I have a degree in an IT discipline so I am familiar with some of the software that I may have to use and have a fair idea of what needs to be done but I am just after a bit of clarity on this sensitive subject.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading.

ps - i have found out that my area is pure ntl

Hey owenEQ i bought a modem in about october and have been pleased with what i bought. I got a Motorola SB5101E. The "E" meaning tht it can be used all over the UK as it is the Eurodocsis i think.
When i bought mine it came with all the required info for setting it up. Just neeeded to obtain a MAC address from a friend in an other area.
I get 20mb broadband, there was a few hick ups with setting it up but ull get there. Luckily you dont need to do programming or anything.
Hope this helps abit

download and read the haynes cable modem guide, this is the best way to start to understand how it all comes together.
