Cool which image?

I have a DM500S, and I suspect its probably a clone, that I bought from the net. It came pre-installed with a PLI Helenite image. and I believe this runs on Enigma ?

Q1. there is Enigma 1 & Enigma 2, how do I find which version of Enigma I am running?

Q2. I am a linux ignoramus, is it wise to upgrade to the latest image which is PLI Iolite I believe? are the latest releases pretty stable?

Q3. It also has CCcam installed, can I just update to the latest version of that, or is it embedded/ tied to the PLI image?

Q4. I have had to play around a lot with thesetup of Satellites and transponders when I received it so that I can get it working on the 6 LNB's im running. When I got it I could insert my S*y card and it would decode okay,... but now it dosnt anymore... I now I have a lot to learn in this area.. but anyone got any pointer to what I might have stuffed up?

Q5, and possibly my stupidist question.... there is lots of different images out there, is there any refernce that compares them and idetifies the features and benefits of each?

ok I look forward to your responses!

HI mate,
Sorry to have to say but your box is in all probability a clone, the real boxes do not come with the Pli image in them.

(1) The E1 refers to the the Enigma 1 that the DMM 500s, 7000 and 7020 come with, the E2 is Emigma 2 which is in the 600 and the 7025 and the two are different and the images for them are also very different.

(2) The Pli images are a wee but different and use their own versions of EMUs, which can be downloaded from their server. The Iolite is the latest image from them and it can be had in E1 and E2 variants. You need the E1 version.

(3) Cccam is about the most versitile EMU around at the moment. It will update a sky card and keep it updated. You can have two, but do not try any more than two, images on the 500s, I would suggest that you use the latest cccam and Mgcamd Eums in your box. They can be found if you Google them.

(4) If you have Cccam your card should auto update, so I can't imagine what you might have done to stop it doing so. You might try putting the card into a Dodgybox (sky box) and see if it works in your 500s after it has updated.

(5) You can only try them for yourself, as everyone has their own favorite image.

One thing that you need to know is that everything for your box needs to be E1 only, as E2 will not work in your box.

Hope this has been some help to you. It is good to get a real thread amongst all this cable nonsense.

Very best regards Wez

Great thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction there.
I had enough fun just getting my staellites.xml file to work, let alone trying to figure the whole cam thing
Cheers

Hi If you like you can download the Captain's Settings and use DreamboxEdit to send them to your box, this will set your box with all the most used satellites, complete with bouquets for them. It is much better to do it this way, because you have everything done for you, you have no need to scan the satellites, make up bouquets or anything like that.

Glad to hear that you are progressing, if you need any more help do not be afraid to ask for it, we are here to help when we can.

Very best regards Wez

Thanks Wez, unfortunately I am in NZ and I think when I looked the Captains settings were for Sats not visible from here.

I am pretty happy with my Satellites XML now, although none of the editirs I have tried ( DreamboxEdit, Dream set,.. and forgot the name of the 3rd) make it very easy to sort and organise my channel lists etc.. I have about 3-400 channels that I want to sort but you hae to edit each one at a time to change channel numeber etc...

Anyway more importantly I decided to go ahead and re-flash my box with the latest PLI iolite image but found out that LNB/ Disecq setup area is obviously buggy as it doesnt save my settings...after the first line (I am using 6 LNB's and a Diseqc switch).. And stupidly I didnt back up my old image before i filashed the new image ...Fortunately its a pretty quick process to re-flash.. however setting up the lnb's etc using the remote control is a real pain.. pity there isnt an external editor for these settings as well!

Hi mate,
Sorry to hear about your bother with the reflashing. I have both my dishes motorised, the small one on a rotor and the 1.2Mtr Channel Master on a polar mount and 36v actuator. If all this sh!t with the cable boxes were sorted I am sure that someone with a bit of a better idea of setting up your LNBs and the diesqc switch would be bale to sort you out in no time.

Just as a point of interest, what are you using to flash the box, is it dream up and a null modem cable or what? It is best to use the slower method of dream up and the null modem cable and to erase the image before you flash the new one.

Good luck and my regards to all you in NZ, the next door neighbour's sister lives in South Island, has done for years.

Very best regards Wez

hi again Wez,

no I dont think its a matter of needing help to set it up.. It was working before on my older Helenite image, with the same layout.. just the new image doesnt seem to work in that area!
I run a Toridal T90 dish with 5 Lnb's and I have a 2.3 M C band dish on a fixed Polar Mount.

I used flashwizard, and all seemed to go ok.. maybe I was just lucky?

I am just north of Christchurch which is the largest city in the South Island,.. so might well know your neigbours sister.. its pretty quiet down here compared to the UK
