If you are using a PC then then another alternative is to buy a serial port PCI card.

If you have a laptop then ask a m8 for the use of their PC

costs less than a new box.

Mine was an investment so I bought from DELL and besides I wanted to be sure I got one that worked properly. This was after buying a rs232 to USB adapter, waiting 2 weeks for the delivery, spending 4 weeks trying to get the bl**dy thing to work and all this time, banging my head against the wall

so can you recommend a specific card and price please? I've been badgered for ages about getting one that ISN'T usb adapted, becasue as you say, they seem crap!

As I said kj - I bought mine from dell (i've got a dell pc) and I think I paid bout €80 for it
