If your box had Kuro beta2 on it before, you will be OK.

If you google RS232 pinouts you will find many posts with the wiring diagram. remember you need a null-modem or crossover connection.

A normal serial cable is a straight through cable, male to female, each pin to the same pin the other end.

A null modem cable is female to female.

The pins you will need are 2, 3 & 5.

Pin 2 (Transmit) to Pin 3 (Recieve).
Pin 3 (Recieve) to Pin 2 (Transmit).
Pin 5 (Ground Signal) to Pin 5 (Ground Signal).

So the cable is crossed over: TX (Transmit) one end to RX (Recieve) the other and vise versa.

Having said all this, i dont recommend it and believe you should buy a properly terminated cable, a lot less hassle.

Have fun

  • Connections:
  • pin 2 ...to... pin 3
  • pin 3 ...to... pin 2
  • pin 4 ...to... pin 6
  • pin 5 ...to... pin 5
  • pin 6 ...to... pin 4
  • pin 7 ...to... pin 8
  • pin 8 ...to... pin 7
is this right? or should i just do 2,3,5? im really good at making up cables with a soldering iron, thats the only reason i was gona have a go!

Also, how do you know if your box has Kuro beta2 already on it?

thanks for the help!
