Hi,

very good guide.... regarding the clone boxes... does this mean that they can't be flashed with the latest firmware and are therefore useless?

If u are using a usb to serial adapter which by the sounds of it you are you could have one of two problems..

1. u dont have the drivers for your usb to serial device, the one i used came with a c d which installed the drivers on my pc. It also is compatible with vista (a lot of people find they have trouble using these converters with vista).

2. Your usb to serial adapter has been autosigned to a COM port >4. (This happened to me). To check the COM port have your eurovox connected and in standby. Then click start > Control panel > performance and maintenance > system > hardware > Device Manager.

On Device Manager expand your "Ports COM & LPT" and you should see your usb to serial device listed. Right click and click properties. Then under the port tab at the top click on advance settings. Here you can manually select which COM Port the device will use. You must use either COM port 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Hopefully this will help u out

Press Menu, Language Settings and key in 1968 once and you should see these two options appear at the bottom of the list. If these are disabled they can impact on auto-updating and they should be checked every time you disconnect and re-connect power to your box (ie. perform a factory reset)

This should mean that keys do not need to be manually entered anymore.

YOU WILL NEED:

-Correct updated firmware for your eurovox model. (see this forum)
-A Computer with Serial port or USB to Serial Adaptor.
-RS232 NULL Modem cable.
-Eurovox (not connected to tv by coaxial/aerial leads)

WHAT TO DO:

-Take power cord out of the Eurovox.
-Connect your Eurovox to your Computer using Serial port / adaptor and RS232 Cable.
-Plug power cord into the Eurovox and put it into standby.
-Unzip the firmware download for your model.
-Open the .exe file within the unzipped folder.
-Click the UPLOAD button to save your current channel data.
-Select a place to store your channel data. (only temporary)
-Once this process is complete, you should hit the download button in the center of the window. (not channel data)
-This process should take around 150 seconds (2-3 minutes)
-When complete, you should click the download button on the channel data section.
-This will quickly put all of your channels back onto the box.
-When Complete, pull the power cord from the box.
-Disconnect your computer from the eurovox.
-Insert Power Cord into the eurovox.
-Press the power button on the remote or box itself.
***CONGRATULATIONS***
Your eurovox should now be re-flashed and should survive.

IMPORTANT BITS:
  • Please note that upon your first viewing of some channels after this has been complete, the "Please wait... codes updating" message will show. This can last between 15 seconds and 20mins (maybe more). But it will be doing as it says and trust it.
  • Please note that if you have a cloned box it is likely to become bricked upon reflashing. I hold no responsibility for this.
  • I hold no liability for any damage or bricking or general harm caused to your box and or property. Thanks.
Points that you may wanna consider:
  • You may need to connect serial whilst computer is off.
  • RS232 null modem cables can be bought from Fleabay, or places like Mapl!ns. The same for usb to serial cables.
  • Vista drivers for usb to serial cable can be found here (sewellsupport.com/archives/usb-to-serial-is-vista-compatible) may not work but worth a try - it worked for mine.
Any advice and/or comments and / or Thanks for this guide are greatly appreciated.

Now if you know anyone who has also has a eurovox, tell them of this guide and make a toast towards the amazing people who have taken the time to make this firmware update.
Thanks guys.
thany you for your great info and help, works a treat
