INTRODUCTION:
I have written this tutorial on how to re-flash your Eurovox with the patched firmware which was released today (10/04/08). This should mean that keys do not need to be manually entered anymore. REASONS TO UPGRADE TO THE PATCHED FIRMWARE: - The New firmware is basically the latest firmware for your box. It is the latest stable release that has had the new Keyroll sequence programmed in. - If you are willing to wait for the keys to run out on the BigMaq toolbar and keep manually updating until the firmware is rendered useless, go ahead. It isn't advisable as the new firmware is probably better for your box. - It is just patched firmware - "just a plaster put over a cut in a leg -> not a new leg!", it isn't a total new firmware package. - If you notice changes with your viewing on the Patched FWare, then you probably didn't have the latest firmware. YOU WILL NEED: -Correct updated firmware for your eurovox model. (search in google or something) -A Computer with Serial port or USB to Serial Adaptor. -RS232 NULL Modem cable. -Eurovox (not connected to tv by coaxial/aerial leads) WHAT TO DO: -Take power cord out of the Eurovox. -Connect your Eurovox to your Computer using Serial port / adaptor and RS232 Cable. -Plug power cord into the Eurovox and put it into standby. -Unzip the firmware download for your model. -Open the .exe file within the unzipped folder. -Click the UPLOAD button to save your current channel data. -Select a place to store your channel data. (only temporary) -Once this process is complete, you should hit the download button in the center of the window. (not channel data) -This process should take around 150 seconds (2-3 minutes) -When complete, you should click the download button on the channel data section. -This will quickly put all of your channels back onto the box. -When Complete, pull the power cord from the box. -Disconnect your computer from the eurovox. -Insert Power Cord into the eurovox. -Press the power button on the remote or box itself. ***CONGRATULATIONS*** Your eurovox should now be re-flashed and should survive. ![]() IMPORTANT BITS:
Points that you may wanna consider:
- Firmware downloads are available allover the net. go fetch. **Please remember that if your box is a clone (see clone identification attachment), the new firmware will Brick your box, rendering it USELESS.** Firmware for older boxes is probably available on other threads. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) - My USB to Serial adaptor cable won't install on vista. A tutorial can be found for installing these on Vista at "sewellsupport.com/archives/usb-to-serial-is-vista-compatible". Please post if this doesn't work for you.- My Eurovox is not detected when I click the Download or Upload buttons. If you go into Menu, then Language settings, and enter 1 9 6 8 once, you will see two new options at the bottom of the menu. Make sure these are enabled. Ensure that your RS232 Null Modem Cable is firmly connected at both ends, and that drivers are installed and COM ports enabled.- My Eurovox doesn't find any channels when I search after reflash. Ideally, you should have backed up your channels (as in this guide). You will now have to follow instructions for setting up a new box. Sorry CONCLUSION Any advice and/or comments and / or Thanks for this guide are greatly appreciated. Now if you know anyone who has also has a eurovox, tell them of this guide and make a toast towards the amazing people who have taken the time to make this firmware update. Thanks guys. ![]() Last edited by r.bate; 15-04-08 at 10:54 PM. Reason: Making thread look nice again. |

just one suggestion pull the powercord from the back of your box before plugging the serial lead in or removing it. And power down your pc before plugging/unplugging the serial into there too.
Saves the hiss bang, smoke. if you need leads fleabay is best place, the usb ones can be found by searching for "usb to Serial" but if your using ms Vista (dont they make currys) you will need a driver disk, and can be tempremental.

![]() I wonder if any of the mods can sticky this, as this one and Ronsters thread on flashing are very concise and easy to follow. |
