Post The Easy Guide to Updating your Eurovox

I have written this tutorial on how to re-flash or update your Eurovox with the latest firmware releases.

It is highly important that you understand that receiving cable television without subscription is illegal and is not condoned or promoted in any way. This guide is for educational purposes only and is not supporting illegal activities.

What do I need to update my Eurovox?

  • A Computer
  • A Serial Port or USB to Serial Adaptor
  • An 'RS232 NULL Modem' cable
  • Your Eurovox Receiver
  • A Television (ideally)

What you need to do:

  1. Take power cord out of the Eurovox.
  2. Connect your Eurovox to your Computer using 'Null Modem' Cable.
  3. Plug the power cord back into the Eurovox and put it into standby.
  4. Extract the firmware folder.
  5. Open the .exe file within the extracted folder.
  6. Click the Upload button to save your current channel data.
  7. Select a place to store your channel data and click Save.
  8. Once this process is complete, you should hit the download button in the center of the window - This process should take around 150 seconds (2-3 minutes)
  9. After this is complete, click the Download button on the channel data section.
  10. This will quickly put all of your channels back onto the box.
  11. Now you should pull the power cord from the box.
  12. Disconnect your computer from the Eurovox
  13. Reconnect the Power Cord into the Eurovox.
  14. Press the Power button on the remote or box itself.
When you reach this stage, the process is complete.

Things which you may wish to take note of:
  • Please note that upon your first viewing of some channels after this has been complete, the "Please wait... codes updating" message will show. This can last between 15 seconds and 20mins (maybe more). But it will be doing as it says and trust it. All it is doing is updating its decryption codes, which is what allows the box to be used illegally - such activities include receiving cable television without subscription which is not condoned or promoted by the author of this guide or the forum.
  • Please note that you should not try to load genuine firmware onto a Clone Eurovox. If you do not know if you have a cloned box, please click here to see a guide on identifying them.
  • I hold absolutely no responsibility what-so-ever for any harm or damage caused to your box or property whilst following this guide.
  • Your computer may require for it to be switched off before you connect the 'RS232 Null Modem' Cable to it.
  • 'RS232 Null Modem' Cables can be bought from Fleabay, or places like Mapl!ns. The same goes for USB to Serial Adaptors.
  • If you're a Windows Vista user, you may have driver issues with USB to Serial cables. Try the manufacturer's website and also try the ones avaialable here.
Finding Firmware
  • You can download firmware for your Eurovox from the Downloads section, which can be accessed by established users.
    To get to this section,
follow the following route: Techwatch>UK Cable>Private FTA>'Some Download Links' Sticky. You can also get there by clicking here.
  • If you do not have access then please feel free to do some Google-ing.
  • Please remember that as mentioned earlier : You have to get the clone safe firmware if you are using a cloned box.
Eurovox Updating Related FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

My USB to Serial adaptor cable won't work with Windows Vista:
To obtain drivers, try the manufacturer's website and also try here.
My Eurovox is not detected when I click the Download or Upload buttons:
If you go into Menu, then Language settings, and enter 1 9 6 8 once, you will see two new options at the bottom of the menu. Make sure these are enabled. Ensure that your RS232 Null Modem Cable is firmly connected at both ends, and that drivers are installed and COM ports enabled.

Please post for further help.

My Eurovox doesn't find any channels when I search after a reflash:
Ideally, you should have backed up your channels (as is done in this guide). You will now have to follow instructions for setting up a new box. Sorry.

Any advice and/or comments and/or Thanks for this guide are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my guide.

just one suggestion pull the powercord from the back of your box before plugging the serial lead in or removing it. And power down your pc before plugging/unplugging the serial into there too.

Saves the hiss bang, smoke.

if you need leads fleabay is best place, the usb ones can be found by searching for "usb to Serial" but if your using ms Vista (dont they make currys) you will need a driver disk, and can be tempremental.

I followed your instructions and sorted it out without any problems, so thanks and good work.
I wonder if any of the mods can sticky this, as this one and Ronsters thread on flashing are very concise and easy to follow.
