blue box but with the max face!!!

hey all just tryin to update the box but i had to install a new face due to the reciver not working on the original blue system.
so now i have the max front and a blue box but when i want to install the new firmware it say's that the reciver is not compatable??
am i able to load the max firmware on to this box or should i get my friends box and place the original blue box front and then update the firmware??
all we have been doing this past month is changing thew channel manually! because the remote is not compatable?
