Hi mate,
A dreambox is not for free Sly, unless you have a card sharing network set up and a legitimate paid up card to share. It is a very difficult box to master and is not for the faint hearted.

If you have any ideas of just getting one and having it work out the box then forget it. You will not get any free Sly channels without a lot of work on the box and your network.

You can, however, get a dreambox for cable also. The 500c is a cable box and I don't see any posts from owners of 500c boxes in the panic posts on here, over the past few days, so I assume it is working OK.

If you want to make the best use of a satellite dreambox you will want to install a motorised dish and one of about 1Mtr would be best for normal satellites.

Very best regards Wez

Hi guys,

Dreambox's 500c got knocked out as well with the cable key roll's I saw loads of posts from people wanting help. Other problem with dreambox is that its a little harder to enter the keys manually. As kerrywez says dreambox's can be a pain to set up and get working. There are people selling them as plug and play pre installed with there images. Only problems when there is a problem you then have to learn quickly about flashing the image.

kamark you will not get any benifit from a dreambox other than it allows you to put your official card into the dreambox. You will not gain any further channels from your card. For example you cannot buy a bottom tear package and receive all channels. Dreambox's open many packages and it has been mentioned already the basics but no more should be mentioned.

Hi Kamark, a Dreambox is basically a computer that has a Linux operating system on it. The Dreambox looks like any normal tv set top box although in my opinion it looks nicer than most. Software is written that allows the box to act just like a tv reciver plus it can be used as a jukebox, weather centre, email and message centre etc.

If you just want to watch Sky UK then get a Sky Digibox and subscription. If you want a lot more with programmes from around Europe and the Middle East and you like fiddling about to get what seems impossible then the Dreambox is for you.

If you have a big compact disk collection or like downloading music and are fed up with putting CDs in a player then you can transfer your music to the Dreambox hard drive and sit back and listen for hours.

You dont need to know anything about the Linux operating system but you do need to know how to transfer files from your pc. To me, the Dreambox 'club' is the best community in the world. I have met and made many friends around the world via the Dreambox and all of them. well nearly all, are really nice people.

However, if you want a Dreambox then be warned, the 500s is a box with limited memory no usb and no hard drive. To get the true functionallity of a Dreambox it is necessary to go for a 600, 7000, 7020 or 7025 model.

Hi there.
Complete newbie here. Sorry to bump a old thread, but it's exactly what i'm looking for. I've quickly read over the rules and I believe that this is OK.

My situation is: I currently have at the house a basic Sky subscription in the main living room, but just a standard Sky DV3 box in the bedroom with no subscription. I'd like to get some extra channels in my bedroom and haven't got a 'multiroom' subscription.

Only have a 3mb or less internet connection coming into the house so can't really stream TV into the house until BT upgrade all the exchanges.

What can be done, and if it can, what do I need to get e.g New Boxes etc.

I only heard of these Dreamboxes yesterday as I stumbled across a thread on a forum

From what I read that these boxes are configurable to receive all channels potentially, whether someone has a full Sky Subscription or not.

Is this true? If someone is willing to take some time to just explain some stuff to me, through this thread, private message, or even email, it would be incredibly appreciated

Ok, Thanks for the reply.

So what is the exact point of one? All the extra outlay for something you can pay £10 a month extra for with Sky?

You do not get the point because you have not read anything about the boxes or the uses they can be put to.

A dreambox is not for Sly, though it can be used for it. It is used for a load of other satellites and providers. Unless you want to have a motorised system, then a dreambox would be of very limited use to you. Sly is only one provider on the cluster of satellites around 28.2 East. What most people do not appreciate is that fact the Sly do not own a satellite, they use satellites at 28.2 degrees East. If you are not looking for anything other than the boring sh!t that Sly produce then do not even think about buying a dreambox. I would suggest that you, and others posting to this thread, go read about DMM boxes and stop posting silly question which have been answered countless times before on here.

Regards Wez
