There is a guide here for the 1000 series, which is similar.
Patching your Technomate 1000 series Once you have done it with the modem cable you can use USB Flash memory thereafter. Robbo |

Hi all, the tm5000 series are usb enabled so patching is as easy as sticking the patch upzipped onto a usb stick and shoving it into the receiver. Here is a how to posted on another forum.
Hi guys and welcome, I've had my box a few weeks now and yes its honestly a absolute doddle to update. The patches and softcam files are kindly put up for us on here. All you do is d/load them. transfer the unzipped files onto your usb stick, shove it in your reciever and it will tell you to please wait. When that screen is gone you hit menu/usb/data transfer or green button(shortcut) and data transfer. Select the file off your stick and hit OK. The file will load, exit out. For tps to clear when loaded tune to France4 on hotbird, others turn to various channels on each package as patch is au. Receiver will say "please wait" and then you are done. Pull out the USB stick for loading next time. Just follow any extra instructions that are with the patches or softcams, ie A/U info. Great little boxes mate and a good price too. With thanks to rit ki

Hi,
Reading this thread it seems that the TM 1000 series needs a null modem cable to start off patching but with the 5000 series, it can all be done with a USB stick and no need for the cable. Is this correct please, as I dont have a cable but do have a TM5400 Many thanks Mikado |

I have been led to believe that the first patch for the TM5000 series needs to be done with the cable, this may be false, try it with the USB and you will find out.
