Default usb to rs232 problem

bought usb to rs232 adaptor from maplin.tried to flash starview no joy
flashed on mates pc using just rs232 cable no problem. is a special usb to rs232 adaptor needed.

Usb-serial adapters will not work mate,buy a pci serial card and use that usb cannot handle the data correctly

I dont know about that. I did my own starview with a similar lead. I found that by trying it in all my usb ports. and then installing it. make sure you get a usb to serial port not just cable. keep trying it will work eventually.

You need a USB-Serial AND a null-modem lead. The USB-Serial needs to be configured to use COM1 to COM4 and may not work at all in Vista

May not work at all on any OS mate ive come across hundreds of people that have tried these types of converters and in fairness theres a few that work but they dont always work for data transfer on the boxes.

I got a belkin one and it works great :-) And im not a lover of belkin atleast they got something right lol

my laptop that I used to flash my starview has vista. I think we need to get some facts here instead of generating rumours.
