It could be a problem with your cable - are you sure its a NULL MODEM cable as opposed to a standard serial cable (the wiring is different)

Hi, is there an easy way to tell if the cable I have is a null modem cable or a standard serial cable. And if I do have a standard cable, is it possible to convert it to a null modem. Thanks

No way to tell the difference other than when you bought it you have to specifically ask for a NULL MODEM cable.

If you have a standard cable, maybe it is possible to convert it but to take the plugs off and re-wire them? way too much hassle. Much easier to buy a new cable
