Someone mentioned in another post that the keyrole has to be done manually, don't know if this is true but it would make sense as to why it only happened at certain times of the day, anyway what the heck.

It will cost VM money to do any kind of change, it'll come to a point where either they will consider it not worth the bother or they'll total all the boxes properly with a major change!
Until then we're lucky there's some clever bods on here who can solve the problems VM might pose presently. |

The monetary cost to VM compared to how easy their measures are to defeat simply means it is not cost effective for them. The simple solution for them would be to change to a more secure encryption service like nagra3 but that too would cost them a lot of money. They know that it would be too expensive for them to completely stop us from using their service.
I think the recent key changes were just a show of strength, demonstrating to us that it is their network and they can change the keys whenever they feel like it. It would have caused the less technical of us to give up our boxes completely and the publicity surrounding the key change would cause potential buyers of the boxes to have doubt about it. In short, I don't think their aim was to stop us from using their service as they know that would cost them too much money. Their aim was to stop newer people from buying boxes. |

Sky have many more channels as well. I do miss my Sky subscription every now and again, but then I realise I am getting cable for free so I don't care.

i suppose every time they change the way the keys roll...they are going to have to do extensive research into it... how it affects eurovox's ect and also how it affects the "paying customers" aswell.... dont forget there are 10000s of ppl out there paying for the service...and if they were to disrupt everyones service thee there would be a lot of unhappy people!!

The reason that VM are trying to do something about the illegal watching is that sky have told them that if they dont they will withdraw their channels as they are losing money too, which is probably why some channels have already disapeared..
