Lightbulb First post....for those who are nervous of update!

Hi all, as you will see this is my first post on here!
I've visited these pages before though and always found them to be the best source of info - well on Eurovox Max V box anyway!!

Reason I thought I would start this thread though is for the other people like me who are new to these boxes, and in particular the update process. Having never done this before, I thought it might be useful for me to be the guinea pig so that, hopefully, other people will then get the confidence to 'just do it' instead of posting the repetitive questions on this site - I'm sure the 'regulars' on here know what I mean!

Anyway, as an intro, you may tell from my username that there is no cable in my road so I am "Stuckwithsky"! Wit! Bought a Eurovox Max V 2008 box for my dad though and it worked a treat until it stopped working and displayed the "Updating codes" message on Weds of this week. I was on hols so have only just got around to having a look for a fix!!

So, from other posts on this site I have downloaded the update file as per the instruction - you may find that you need WINRAR to unzip this file once you have downloaded it. I have then extracted the contents of the downloaded file to a folder on my desktop. I have run the exe file and it looks very straightforward to be honest - the update software appears to be professionally built and I have no concerns on that front at the moment!

BUT you will now have to wait until tomorrow for the final instalment, I will take laptop to my dad's and upload channel list before downloading update.

I hope that you appreciate this thread......an idiots guide for ...er....idiots!

--Thanks to all on this site for information I have gleaned to date!

SUCCESS!!

Update performed, all went perfect and "did what it said on the tin!"

So, as per my first post I had downloaded the update and extracted filies using Winrar. I then came across a little stumbling block as none of my laptops had a serial port. But I knew my Dad had a PC so copied the update file to a CD.

Arriving at my dads I switched on his PC and copied the update file to the Desktop. I plugged the RS232 (serial lead) into the PC and also to the Eurovox box. I then 'double-clicked' the update file on the desktop so that it ran the programme and displayed the programme window on the screen - then I plugged the mains lead into the Eurovox.

I waited 15 seconds or so after powering up and then clicked the "Upload" button at the bottom of the screen, after prompting me for a place to save the channel list file and to give it a name I clicked "OK" and then was met with a window saying something like 'Version 2.10 detected' and "Start" button - clicked "Start" and off it went. Took about 5 seconds for this bit! Once done the screen returned to main display and I clicked the large "Download" button at the top - this started the download and took around 2 minutes for the two blue bars show progress across the screen. Once complete it said 'Update Successful' and returned to main display. Next click the small download button at the bottom and that puts back all of the channel setting info.

In all, from switching on the PC this took all of 5 minutes!

Did get a scare though when I connected back up to the TV and the "Please Wait, Updating Codes" message reappeared!! But this cleared after a couple of minutes and service was restored!! Easy!

A couple of things which we did notice with the update, though nothing huge, is that the TV display options reset back to default and need to be altered again - i.e. went from 16:9 back to 4:3. Also there is a difference in the screen display when pressing the TV button on remote - as well as the list of channels you now get a programme description at the bottom right hand side for the highlighted channel instead of the the old frequency setting as in the old software. So a bonus, we thought.

Anyway, this went so well that I also went to see a friend who had lost his too and updated his box as well!

Moral of the story is - asking questions will only confuse the easily confused! This update works so just do it!

Many thanks to this site - a credit to the internet!!
