GENUINE OR CLONE Starv**w
Counts the vents on top

First Generation = 13 x 7 vents
Genuine = 25 x 7 vents
Clone = 18 x 7 vents

some ist gen boxes did have 18x7 vents this is only a pointer

if you have got 13x7 or 25x7 you have a genuine box
they put 18x7 to play safe as all clones have 18x7
the real test is the cpu your box is 100% first gen

Can anybody help me with this. A friend asked me to flash his Starview Box and I'm not sure if its a clone or not.

It has the 13 x 7 vents on the top casing.
At the back it is the same as the one marked on the Clone/Copy pics http://www.freewebs.com/svclones/
On the Power Supply Motherboard it has 7 capacitors not 11. But the green one in the photos is Black on his box.
It has Samsung on the board chip and underneath it has GCR3510CX REV.B followed by 2005.09.05 with "No" extra line underneath.
Inside the screws have no red blob on top but are a light gold colour.
One thing that throws me is the remote control is the one marked "Latest Remote" in the clone/copy pics. Not the one "1st Gen"
And most of all The heatsink on the Cpu is more similar to the one on the clone/copy box except for that its Gold in colour.

Please can anyone shed some light on the last 2 issues.

check heat sink is the easy way if it looks spiky like this one its a clone
