Default Fortec Star Passion & upscaling

Hi all,

I've a Fortec Star Passion HD receiver which is supposed to upscale normal channels. HD is fine and the resolution is 1080i. However, standard def picture s only display at 571i. I thought it was supposed to upscale at 1080i.

Any help welcomed.

Hi yat360

I take it you are connecting the STB to the TV via HDMI? If so, the display on the Passion STB when you press the 'i' button gives details of the resolution of the picture on the incoming signal, not the output resolution of the Passion STB. If you check the 'info' button on your TV remote control (or whichever button tells you which input and resolution the TV is currently displaying), you should find it is 1080i irrespecitve of which satellite channel you are watching. i.e. the 576i channels are being upscaled to 1080i. Hope this helps.

Thanks Matt,

That makes sense. Clearly the Fortec's upscaling prowess is not very impressive!!! The picture through the RGB scart on my SKY box is better!

I'm using Component on my Fortec Passion HD, and also use 1080i resolution. The picture quality is great. A step up from my Thomson Freeview box via Scart.

Some programmes don't display properly on thr 1080i, but setting it to 720p helps, with it being Progressive scan.

Which Firmware do you have on the Passion HD?

The latest Beta firmware (Version 1.8), which i currently have installed, has been said to improve HD quality, picture quality, etc.

Have to say, the Passion's HD performance at 1080i on my TV (full 1080 HD) via a 10 metre HDMI lead is very impressive. It knocks spots off the integrated digital freeview decoder in the TV (not to mention the always iffy Virgin Media STB performance).

If you are not getting a very good picture, I'd be inclined to fiddle and perhaps try different leads.
