Question Usb to serial

Will this work peeps?
I'm gonna attempt to flash the Kryptview for the first time.
I've got the null cable but no serial port in my pc or laptop, I've bought a usb to male serial adapter cable. Will this work ok and if so does it effect the settings (com port etc) on the loader program? If this cable is no good could I use a pcmcia serial card for my laptop or has it got to be a pci card (serial)on my desktop pc.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Been without telly for days now because of waiting for this cable, fancy not putting serial ports on new computers!!!

Cheers.

Hi I have a USB to serial, but it will not work with Vista and I need to use my Toshiba, running XP, to flash my dreamboxes. I feel it is a driver issue with the Vista, but at least it keeps my Toshiba working as I never use it for the Net or anything other than the USB to serial, for flashing the dreamboxes.

Very best regards Wez

Red face Re: Usb to serial

Tried all yesterday to get it working, no joy kept coming up with"the download is not requesting"
Tried changing the com ports, speed etc. My laptop is running xp aswell. I'm gonna take my Kryptview to work today and try it serial to serial. Is there a setting I've missed on the box (I had done a factory reset and got 0000 on the screen) At the moment as soon as I turn the box back on the error message pops up.
Any help would be grand.

Ted
