Default Hi first time here (image advice needed)

Hi There

Firstly let me thank you for having a forum with images available

Okay... back in 2005 while searching for dbox2 info I found the allforums site and used the tuts available there to download Sportster 1.72/75 and after 15 hrs of crossover cable shenanigans have been very happy since. However since I now appear to have to find that cable again ( I've just moved and have over 20 boxes of 'crap' filling a room of which it could be in any of them) I was just wondering if I need to take anything with me apart from my service files and bouquets? Think I read somewhere it was good idea to back up Ucodes and AViA's is this ness?

And should I go right for the Laky-pro 1 or are some images easier to flash than others for an almost flash virgin like maself.

Think I used IFA last time but it was my first time and took me almost 2 shifts to get it working anyone recommend an easier way?

many thanks

If you downloaded all the files from the useall place then there loads off info on flashing a dbox.....

i dont no nothink about dbox untill i read all the manual and downloaded the new files provided from this web site.

i am currently a 1 week user and done everythink with the dbox, it all stright foward as what i have read from the free provided files...

i have tried all the flash methods and they all work, my quickest way is to use a rj45 cross over wire, and stick the new img in a temp dir then load it via the box then reboot done.

was that the IE ftp or IFA way then?

Like I said the last time I messed with this it was over 2 years ago so not really easy to remember. I actually think it was Flashfxp that wasn't working for me and I eventually got it together with IFA. But willing to try IE ftp if it's easier what you think. Anyhow will have to find that bloody cable first.

I was happy enough with my old Sportster image but can't edit keys in tuxcom and rescans take ages like 1½ hours.

Do all the newer images scan much faster. is there a post comparing the pros and cons of some of the newer images?

When you get the Box connected to the PC, it's a relatively simple task to flash images and compare them. A few people have said that the Laky image appears rushed, I have not tried it.

Cableferret is good as is Andromeda2, if you feel like something different, try SS-Enigma. I'm currently using a custom image I compiled myself.

The new images do scan much faster, you can set your location so the image scans according to your area and not for the whole country.

Hi Lincsat

I did spy your beta5-squashfs image and at a very trim looking 5.8MB too.

looking at the date guess it won't have the AU fix on it though. Perhaps one to try in the future for me.

I did notice a new cable ferret and Andromeda on allforums gmail, they just went up in the last day or 2, If they have the fix built in they would be better options for me just now less messing with ftp prolly best ... I'm sure you would you know if they have the fix?

Regards

I copied the Magic keylist directory with the AU fix onto my DBox 2 running the Sporster image. Seems to be working OK. Simply use a FTP program and delete the original var/keylist folder and copy the fix.

Aw ****

Looked like it was going a breeze, got connected, backed up service file and bouquets ftp'd new image all using IE and windows explorer drag and drop.

from Dbox2 menu did the image update, write one partition, flash without bootloader. It did what it was supposed to....But when it rebooted it won't pass 'loading kernel' on dbox2 screen.

the file I copied to the tmp folder was called andromeda-v2x-mtd3.img something is telling me perhaps I should have shortened it to just mtd3.img would that be correct? . Its been that long since I did this!!

Anyhow what can I do to get this thing working?

Have you got a 2 chip dbox ? You might have flashed the wrong x image for your box.
