I got a cable going into my modem will that work with the dbox as well? and is it possible to run them both at once?

you need a cat 5 network cable to connect to dbox

yes you can . . I use a signal splitter (check ebay they are available for a few quid). Then using an f-connector one line goes to the modem the other with a converter to the back of the box. I've never had any signal loss problems though i know some people use a signal booster/splitter to feed more then one box.
