totally new to European fta

we use an nfusion, 2 viewsats and a captive woks in Canada. But starting next year, we should be spending a lot of time in France. One English speaking Canadian and a bilingual originally French person... and so far, i do not have the smallest idea about how it works here. The boxes are not the same, nor are the patches. I don't know what to buy, nor where to get it. It will be used in a house in the south East of France, with probably both internet and satellite tv. We would like to get some American tv (through streaming if it has too, slingbox or hava), some English one, and some french one. Can you tell me where to get the basis? what stbs re working, where to buy them, how to patch here (probably much the same as over there...).

Well, what box you get depends on what you feel more comfortable with:-

A patchable box or a Linux type box such as a Dreambox.

One of the most popular and well supported patchable box brands is Technomate. The TM1000 series (superceded), The TM 5000 series or the TM 3000 series (quite new on the scene).

The patching varies from box to box, but mainly it is via a null-modem cable to a PC, but some of them can be done via USB flash memory as well.
