Not sure if the same in UK as Ireland but can you get analogue channels ok?

I.e cable straight to TV shows up some basic channels.

yes, terrestrial channels do show up, albeit fuzzy.

Yeah. Sounds like cable prob indeed. Your signal rate is fluctuating madly. I would suggest you try a local cdf file as Pete says. What is your signal like without the booster?

Double check all connections including a splitter. Also back of box EV can have dodgy connection.
