Lets say you select Sirius(4.8E) in the receiver and the angle on the motor is correct for Sirius, but the dish is really pointing at 19.2E, it just means that the motor needs to swivelled round the pole approx 14 degrees westward and the dish tilted upwards a bit.

Simlarly say, you send the dish to 28E, the dish will really be pointing somewhere around 42E, but the dish elevation will be completely wrong.

But the fix is simple, send the dish to 28E then, then swivel the motor round the pole westward by approx 14 degrees, and make the necessary (trial and error) adjustments to the dish elevation(declination) until you get a signal, use BBC1 or similar transponder.

When you have done that wack it wound to 1W for final adjustment.

I must admit, when I first set up my first motorised dish approx 1 year ago, I found it a little confusing at first, but suddenly it all just clicks into place.

Another way of thinking of it, is to not think at all.

Just send the dish to 28E using USALS, then pretend for a moment that you actually have a fixed dish. Then to adjust the azimuth swivel the motor round the pole, and the elevation using the dish az/el mount to get the best signal.

Thanks Robbo. I tried deselecting Usals for sirius switching to Astra 19.2 and the signal remained the same. I chose Usals whilst still in Astra 19.2 but as soon as I try and save the settings the dish moves to 'sirius' and it loses the signal. Quite bizarre.

I'll do as you suggest Robbo although the main board on our combi-boiler has now gone so we are spending as little time in the house as possible (No heating & hot water)! It'll be a few days before we get the part!!

There is a USALS installation video on YouTube showing you all you need to know.

If this link doesn't work just search on the word USALS, and you should find it - I think it is the first or second item.
