Good Afternoon.
Hope this is the right thread, in the giant 2nd floor TV centre/sale rooms at Wrexham Tesco Direct store, I noticed large display stands for Freesat along with posters and what appeared handouts. They were placed on the rear wall of the cashiers area ready to go in store, it would seem. I know Tesco are not supposed to have supplies in the first round, but something is happening, looks like display stuff is on the way, the materials were too far back to read but the Logo and Freesat were visible. No one to ask about them, I was told the TV section Manager was on lunch, other staff said it was display materials. Bob Last edited by merlodlliw; 16-04-08 at 03:23 PM. You would imagine that Tesco would have the clout to get in at the start. Mind you, you would expect the CAI, RETRA and other organisations would have the clout also - it seems they are only interested in multiples that use Sky to install.

Thought this thread would suit discussion better in the Satellite News section than Site Announcements - moved.

I don't remember the exact phrase, but when it was announced that the 3 retailers had exclusive rights to sell the Freesat package, the reason given was that they had an established national network of domestic satellite installers - Can you tell me another established national network of domestic satellite installers?
As stated, they already sell Sky, there's no other national domestic Satellite installation company that installs Sky products - even Sky's PiP's are only really regional.

can not, but in reality they can decide. Anyone else in the Wrexham area, go upstairs at Tesco Extra, into the Tesco Direct section, TV Sales cashiers area, look at the back of this area, you should see the stuff with the freesat logo on it, it was there on Wednesday noonish. I am also sure that the largest trader in the UK (TESCO) could soon round up installers, and probably has. If I get chance ill visit Tesco again today in Wrexham, at the moment we have three inches of snow, the local Councils been caught on the hop, no gritters out. Bob Last edited by merlodlliw; 17-04-08 at 09:10 AM. Reason: also whats the name of this national instalation network. |

It could be that the Freesat retailers have created a national installation company - but the way the initial report read was that the installation company was established, and the installation part was the most important reason for only those retailers being chosen.
TBH, Sky's own installers do a better job than most of the subbies, that's not due to the subbie themselves but down to the low pay and pressure to complete many jobs quickly from the subcontract companies - they don't have the time or pay to take their time and do a quality job. If they have created their own installation company and freesat takes off, expect similar problems to the launch of BSB
