Default Re: usb to rs 232 problem

im using vista on a laptop, and i flashed mine sound usin a usb to rs232 adapter

go into device manager, comms+ports

disable all ports being used, mine was the bluetooth ports on my laptop

then right click the usb to serial adapter, advanced properties, allocate port 4

then disable, and re-enable the adapter (saves rebooting windows)

then disabled all internet connections and anti virus (some weird reason theyd make it crash when it was flashing)

and it works sound...flashd a few boxes ok

Yes. As far as I'm aware two cables is correct.

thanks hogweed i think that flashing from a laptop is rather hit and miss, if using vista you have to download a driver for rs232/usb and then no guarantees of success shall buy a null modem and if still no joy shall have to find someone with a desktop.

have attempted what you,ve said with no joy, i think you need both a rs232/usb cable and a null modem cable, otherwise when downloading firmware ' reciever not detected' and 'awaiting receiver response' is all you get. thanks anyway.
