Default Hi...

Hi...

I currently have a Eurovox MaxV 2008 box. I am wondering wether i should swap to the sattalite side?

Obviously you get more channels as you dont have a limit, but would i need 2 have a sky subscription? also, say if i wanted to pick up channels from america to watch the basketball how would i move the dish and would i use a sky dish or need to get a new one installed?

Hi mate,

(1) you would only need one paid up Sly card for the 7020, it works like a Sly+ box, record one channel whilst watching another or stop live TV and then restart it when you come back from making the coffee.

(2) you will not pick up very much from the states, because their staellites are either below the horizon from GB or they have the beam spotted on the states. You can, however, get some basketball games on 43W, I think I am right about the satellite, but not ablsoutlly sure.

(3) you will need another dish, one of 90 Cms should do the trick for you.

(4) you will need a motor to turn the dish to the different satellites, they are not that dear

Hope this helps you a wee bit.

Very best regards Wez

Hi mate,
You would be looking at that for a 500s, make sure it is the "s". There are a lot of copy 500s receivers about so you would need to be sure it was the genuine article, because in recent days loads of the copies have been hit by software that renders them useless, it is alleged that it was a driver supplied with an image from Gemini which did the damage.

The 7020, on the other hand is a different animal, you would be looking at the £300 for the box alone, at the very least, but the dish and motor should not cost you any more than £75, but with the 7020 you get the same thing as a Sly+ box. Twin tuners, it might or might not have a HDD fitted, but if you can get a second hand one it probably would have a HDD in it, you can time shift, i.e. you can stop a live brodcast and then start it from the point where you stopped it and you can watch one channel and record another, as long as they are both on the same satellite.

All in all you would be best to spend the extra and go for the 7020 as it would suit your original needs better, the 500s can not have a HDD fitted, it is only about 9 inches by 5 inches by 1 1/2 inches. the 7020 is the "normal" size for a receiver.

Hope this will allow you to make a more informed decision. Have a look on Ebay there might just be one on there, but be aware that dreamboxes do not loss their value by very much at all and if there is one there you will be facing a battle for it.

You must also be aware that any dreambox is not very easy to get used to, unless you are handy with a PC/Laptop, because everything that is done with or to one is done through a PC/Laptop.

Very best regards Wez
