Question Setting up CCcam on a 500

Sorry guys, I'm still stumbling at the starting blocks.

I've been advised to install the latest version off CCcam so I can at least use the S*y Freesat card I just received.

The trader I got the box from gave me a link to a site to download from, where I found CCcam 2.0.8 (latest?) and a tutorial. The tutorial seems very informative but seems more geared toward card sharing - maybe not the tutorial I need?

Quote:
The following tools are required to be able to use the CCcam on your Dreambox
1) Linux compatible editor, such as Ultraedit32,Notepad ++ or Crimson Editor (freeware)
2) FTP software like FlashFXP
3) A syslog utility like 3csyslog (freeware)
4) A Telnet utility, the Windows integrated tool will do the job
1) I use Ultredit
2) I use CuteFTP
3) Downloaded and installed 3Csyslog
4) Haven't used it before, but I know how to find a Windoze command prompt.

Quote:
The CCcam archive is composed of 2 files, a bin file and a config file. In the original RAR archive, the authors have saved the Dreambox binary file as CCcam.ppc, whilst the config file is the same as for any version.
The CCcam 2.0.8 archive comprises of -
CCcam.armeb
CCcam.armeb.eabi
CCcam.cfg
CCcam.mipsel
CCcam.ppc
CCcam.ppc.openssl
CCcam.x86
CCcam.x86_64
ChangeLog

Quote:
It is suggested to rename the binary file in CCcam as it will help make the following Telnet procedures easier.
Copy the bin file to /var/bin and set the rights (attributes) to 755. Copy the config file to /var/etc/
The /bin directory didn't exist within /var, so I created it and copied CCcam.ppc to it (renaming it to CCcam by just removing the .pcc extension) and set the attribs to 755. I also copied CCcam.cfg to /var/etc.

Quote:
In Windows,
Start > RUN > and type Telnet 192.168.1.10 (or your Dreambox IP number) and click OK
Login (root)
Now do the following. Type cd /var/bin to go to /var/bin, check whether you are in the correct directory (for Linux ls=dir), check the file colour, the CCcam file should be green.
At the prompt, type “CCcam –dv” making sure to match the file name as well as capital letters.
This is what happens when I telnet -

"CCcam: not found"

Well, that's as far as I've got - I've obviously done something wrong. Any advice please?

Note: The tutorial was not part of the CCcam 2.0.8 archive.

Odds are high that /var/bin isn't in the path for execution so, use:
./CCcam -dv
which will point it to the current directory, overriding the default search path for executables

hi guys,

There should be a much easier way of getting all the cams that you want using a dreambox or any linux box. If you can make sure you box is linked to the net via ethernet. The dependent of what image your using by pressing blue button or sometimes yellow. You can go into downloads are download the cam direct to the box and it will unzip for you. All done and easy. I'm using ds3.6 and its yellow button then ds extras. Emulators. Its much easier to do.

Hi mate,
If you are sure that your 500s is genuine, not a copy, then download the latest Gemini image and flash it to your 500s, but under no circumstances use that image if you are in any way not sure it is a genuine 500s, because it will destroy your copy. You could also use an older image for you box without any danger, say the Gemini 4.20 version. The Gemini image allows you to just put the EMU in the temp folder and then use the blue button to install it, you can also put the Satans Key Bundle in temp and use the blue button to update the keys, but if it is only the Sly FTV card you have and are only on Astra 2 then you will not be updating keys.

Very best regards Wez

Sorry fade2gray but I cant see which image you are using and the startup files change location depending on the image.

Basically you just need the CCcam.ppc file which goes into /var/bin and you must change the file attributes to executable by chmod 755
The config file goes into /var/etc

There is also a startup file needed but that changes to suit the image.

Just get all the files into a folder on your pc.
Use cuteftp to transfer the files to the folders on your Dreambox.

Using telnet is the difficult way of doing it.

Let us know the image and we can take you further.

I cannot imagine anyone risking their Dm500 genuine or otherwise with a Gemini after the 'bomb' fiasco. I use the Pli image and downloaded the latest CCcam from their download server. Isn't CCcam just for cardsharing or am I mistaken?

I'm still trying to get-to-grips with expressions and abbreviations like "image", "EMU" and "CAM". Would it be possible to add stuff like this to the glossary?

"image" brings to mind a jpg or bmp file etc; Google "define:CAM" brings up several definitions but I think might refer to "Card Authentication Method"?

Fom the above comments I understand that "Gemini" and "PLi" are images - images of what and what do they do?

"EMU" must be emulator - emulating what?

I thought that CCcam must be a CAM, but kerrywez's comment, "The Gemini image allows you to just put the EMU in the temp folder...", suggests it might be an EMU?

Just a little confused on my part.

My box is simply badged "DVB", doesn't look anything like a DB500 but should be considered a clone I guess.

I haven't knowingly installed any image (unless CCcam is an image). All I have done so far is upload var/bin/CCcam and var/etc/CCcam.cfg (using CuteFTP), stick a (now activated) S*y house card in the slot, and use the telnet command "./CCcam -dv" in order to unscramble channels such as Channel 4 and FIVE on 28.2E (not the subscription channels).

I'm aware that some topics aren't open for public discussion in these forums, so I apologise if any of the above falls into that category.

Curious, the CCcam emu is a good emulator that together with keys, unlocks all the currently unlockable encryption systems and it also reads most if not all official cards that are inserted in the card slots. No it is not just for cardsharing but it can be used for that purpose.

Fade2gray, for someone who knows so little about the Dreambox type receiver, I am suprised you are using telnet to give linux commands to the receiver.

An image is a linux operating system that makes the Dreambox work. It is similar to XP or Vista on a PC.

An emu is a programme that works on the Dreambox to emulate an unlocking system to open encryption systems. The emu needs keys that unlock the different encryption systems.

All the basic receiver has is a bootloader to get the box started. Once the box is told to start it boots the IMAGE or operating system that you have installed. DS Team, EDG-Nemesis, PLi, Gemini etc are some of the images.

The image will operate to open free to air channels but if you install an emu then it will open some encrypted channels provided you also install the keys.

There are several emu systems such as CCcam, MGcamd, Newcamd, and you can install them and select which one you want to use.

Having installed the image, emus and keys everything can be selected and made to run using the receiver remote control.

I hope that sheds a little light on the subject and does not confuse.
