The satellite slots all use roughly the same frequencies and if you scan Sirius whilst your dish is pointing at Astra 1 19E you WILL get the channels where the frequencies coincide on the satellites.

As Robbo says your dish is pointing at 19E

Hi mate,
You are as AS and Robbo say receiving the signal from Astra 1 @19.2 E. Your next step will be to look for Hotbird, but I have a feeling that what you thought was Amos is indeed Hotbird, if you scan it and find Polsat, France 1,2,3,4 and 5 then you will be sure, but it will be it because the next satellite from Astra 1, with a big signal would be Hotbird, Eutelsat @16 E would be between the two, but it would not have a strong signal, though it might well be, a scan will determine which you have. The next satellite with a very strong signal should be Sirius, but there are 3 satellites between Hotbird and Sirius.

I would suggest that you move the dish till you get a good signal again and then scan it to see which satellite you are on. If you do this you will, eventually arrive at Thor.

All you need is time and patients, you will get there in the end, and you will wonder why it took so long to do, but doing it yourself is the best way to do it, as you gain all the experience that way.

I do not have my glasses with me so please forgive any typos as I can hardly see the screen on the laptop.

Very best regards Wez

Many thanks for the advice all. I'm pretty sure that what is showing as Sirius is in fact Astra 19.2. I know this because I can go to Astra from Sirius without the dish moving but with the same strength signal. However, the dish does move slightly when going to Amos. I'll look at the channels I have on 'Amos' and let you know. I've tried to send it to a few others sat but wth no luck. Expected I suppose. From 19.2 how much roughly will I need to turn it to find Thor?

I'm pleased that I have a manged to find 19.2 anyway. It is a key sat isn't it.

Just need to sort my Diablo Light Cam out now to unscramble some of the channels!

You have done the hard part - finding ANYTHING.

Now its just a case of doing some tweaking.

From Astra1 (19e) to Thor (1w) is approximately 20 degrees; so when swivelling dish it will be about 5 inches (very roughly). Before moving the dish away from Astra 1, you should mark the spot so that you can easily find Astra 1 again.

Note If this is a motorised set up you may actually have things easier by using USALS and doing the following:

1. enter your coordinates correctly into the receiver, having selected USALS;

2. confirm that the motor is set to your correct latitude (or/= the correct elevation);

3. where the dish is currently, adjust it there for the best signal that you can get for Astra 1;

4. then send the dish to Thor 1w; it will find Thor, all other things being equal/appropriate;

5. Then you can fine-tune on Thor for the best signal you can get.
