Default plug issue modem

Reading tut and going for it myself, what have i got myself into lol.
Anyway got an interface which came with a 4 pin pin on both sides.
I have a 255 modem and connected the plug as described to nearest to erthernet plug on modem.
Problem i have is what colurs should it be in order, does anyone have a pic.
The colours ihave are from in order of the erthernet plug black, green, red and yellow, is this right, anyone have a pic
Also i dont get the 1,2 or p menu either, so this is making me wonder if i am doing correctly or modem no good
Thank
Foxy

Not clued up on these, geting a modem from ebay is not good idea, so finding someone or a place that can provide one for me, as i have no skills in soldering etc, useless i know.
Thanks
