Default RE: Setanta on Freeview

Hi, can anybody tell me why Setanta is only compatible on new freeview boxes with the slot, and not old on/ITV digital boxes, I ask this as on the website it says:

I have an On Digital Box (ITV Digital box). Is this compatible with Setanta Sports?
No. Please call our team on 08712 00 33 22 to find out how to get a compatible Freeview box with viewing card slot

Thanks

Hi mate,
I would imagine that you need a box with a card slot to take the Setanta card, otherwise how would you be able to get the channels. Just my view, as I can't get freeview here in Ireland, but that would be the first theing that would spring to mind.

Very best regards Wez

Thanks for the reply, I''ve got an old OnDigital reciever with a slot and brought a Setanta card as it was £5 for 3 months, just wondering after what i quoted from the website if anyone knew why you couldn't use the old recievers, whether it was to do with encryption, software updates, etc

Thanks

Hi alex,
Again I would not be entirely sure, but I would imagine that the box does not have the software/firmware to allow it to read the Setanta card, therefore it can not decode the channels. I do wish someone who has experience with the freeview box and the On Digital box would answer your question.

Did you try phoning them to see what price they were looking for the compatible box, they might not be that dear, as the Setanta card is still quite new and they would be offering them at a reduced price?

Hope you get a definitive reply very soon, as I am not entirely sure.

Very best regards Wez

I ordered the card online but Tesco sell the box with a slot for £25, which is pretty good so will just go and buy one of those, although I wouldn't of ordered the card if I'd have realised earlier that my box wasn't compatible!

Hi Alex,
You can just put it down to experience, it is not too dear to get it sorted then so go for it and you will be watching one of the 3PM kick offs tomorrow.

I have satellite and can get most of the 3PM kick offs so I will be watching tomorrows games, I will be getting the Gooners, then the Pool and finally Utd. I got the Chelsea boring show last night also and had the Celtic V Rangers game the night before.

Good luck with you new box and the card.

Very best regards Wez

you can watch it as PPV on any Freeview box but you have to ring up to buy an event.
