The 12633 V transponder on EUTELSAT SESAT 36° East with a symbol rate of 1 Ms/s could not be locked and processed in our test – it seems the tuner needs everything upward of 2 Ms/s to findaselected signal.

Hi mate,
I have never heard of a symbol rate of 1 or even 2, as a matter of fact i have never seem anything with a rate less than four figures. I think that it is wrong.

Very best regards Wez

Best that I can offer you is that without it being correct, which 1 or 2 is not, you will not get the channels from the transponder. So try looking here for the channels you are after and see what it gives for the symbol rate >>>>>>>>>> http://en.kingofsat.net/search.php <<<<<<<<<<<<

Vey best regards Wez

Hi, not sure what the units are for symbol rates, but Lyngsat says its 1000.
I will check up what the units are.

Anyway, I just sent my dish round to 36E tuned in to 12633V, set the symbol rate to 1000, and getting a picture no problem. There is only one channel TRSP in Italian, some religious programme.

EDit, The normal units are kilosymbols per second, ksym/sec.

So, 1 Megasymbol/sec = 1000 ksym/sec.

So, the symbol rate is 1000, you would just need to type 1000 into the receiver.

Robbo.

Well that is a lot of good then, unless you are religiously minded. I am sure that symbol rate can't be in units of 1000 though Robbo, a load of transponders have 6111 for their rate so the 1000 unit would be no good for that.I might well have got it wrong Robbo and you mean that 1 is equal to 1000 and that 1000 is in fact 1000000.

Very best regards Wez

Yes, you don't need to worry too much about what it actually is, I have not looked at the definition but it will just be related to the bit-rate of the transmission, with so many bits per symbol. The more symbols per second the better the transmission.

Yes it is in units of 1000.

It is kilosymbols per second.

Yes, 1 is actually 1 kilosymbol per second.

so 6111, is 6111 kilosymbols/sec, or 6.111 MegaSymbols per second.

and 1000 is 1000 Kilosymbols per second or 1,000,000 symbols per second or 1 MegaSymbol per second or even 0.001 Gigasymbol per second
