Default Can my spare dish be used to get more channels?

Hi - new to this so please forgive my technical know-how!

I've recently upgraded to Sky+, however, the installer would not use my 'old' dish as it involved him having to climb my garage roof, so he put up a new dish.

The 'old' dish is identical in size (and style) to my current sky+ dish.

I'm basically enquiring whether this dish can be utilised on another TV in my house. If so, what's best - should I get it re-aligned and if I do this, do I need to get some sort of specialist receiver etc?

Any help / advise would be apprecited!

Yes it can easily be used, although you might want to take it down and put it somewhere more accessable.

A cheap non sky box (the Technomates are well regarded) will allow you to start looking at the other channels available in the skies above Europe. Either Astra 1 or Hotbird is a good introduction

Hi, you have said you wanted more channels, but then you say you want it on another TV in your house.

So I am not quite sure what you want, as normally you want want more channels on the main TV.

To get extra channels on another TV in the house, you could just run a cable from the old dish to another receiver, there would be no need to change the alignment of the dish, to get channels from 28E. A Freesat receiver would do the job OK for you. Comet have just started selling them for £50

If you want to view from a limited set of other satellites then you could point the dish at Hotbird or Astra1 for example.

Thanks for the reply.

Although i'd have the additional channels on the main TV, the missus is the stumbling block!

I've got a games room which currently houses the xbox and I was thinking of using the 'spare' dish for this. I'm not that fussed about getting standard stuff in the games room as I can watch the sky stuff downstairs. Does the freesat you mention have the most channels available or should I get the dish aligned to pick up another satellite for alternative channels?

Sorry for the vagueness, i'm basically after something different in my games room than the standard sky pack!

Thanks for the modorator reply as well - do I need to get the dish aligned for the other satellites you mention & if so, is there a list available of which channels are available?

Thanks in advance

The list of channels is virtually endless.

Take a look at this site:-

www.lyngsat.com.

There you have a list of all the satellites and what is on them. Many of the channels are encrypted but there are plenty of FTA channels, but not many in English on other satellites. 28E has the most English channels and that is where Sky broadcast from.

Another site to look at is www.flysat.com ,if you pick FTV TV it will show all the free English channel that it thinks are avialable on the various satellites.
