Hi. Right ok. complete novice here. I live in France and was recently given a Grundig satellite receiver STR 502 FR. brand new in a box etc as payment for a little job. I thought that with the unit number ending in FR it would be bound to work in France, afterall it was bought over here. But . It picks up German stuff and that is all I seem to be able to get even though I have searched the skies with my sat finder. There has to be someone out there who knows a thing or two about this situation and if that is you I really would be very grateful if you could enlighten me.

Hi Tony, welcome to Techwatch.

Assuming that what you have is a digital satellite receiver, you shouldn't have any problems picking up English channels with it, depending on the dish size.

What size dish have you got?

If you want English it would need pointing at the satellites at 28E (28 degrees east of south).

Have a look at this:-

The satellite arc

Also if you go to dishpointer.com it will tell you where to point the dish for any satellite that you want.

My only concern at the moment is that the receiver might be an analogue one, because both the Germans and the French still use Analogue.

If you get a channel that you can watch, please could you name it and tell us the frequency. Also when you wiggle th edish about, does it get specklely like analogue terrestrail TV, or does it pixelate and dissapear?

Robbo
