Default Does this look ok for a first setup?

Can I just say that after the last few weeks of researching all of the possible systems on the market my head is shoot to bits. But anyway I think that I have found that will suite my needs. (Even though I don't know what MY needs are yet)

The plan is to get a Technomate TM5400CI+ USB and a 80cm motorized dish from http://shop.strato.com/epages/614638...orised-0001%22

Can anyone for see any problems with this? I just want something to have a play with for a while before I go spending far to much. (and SHE has issued a warning)

Thats a nice little setup which should get you well on your way

The TM5400 is a patchable receiver which should open up some encrypted packages once the right firmware patch has been applied to it. The patches are easy to come by fortunately and have a tendency to be updated quite often

If memory serves me right you should mostly be able to open TPS france on 13e, Premiere Germany 19.2e, Digi TV (Eastern Europe) on 1w, Polsat Poland 13e and a few other bits and pieces on other satellites

I'm sure there was some of the Porn channels open on 13e not so long back although i am not sure if this is still the case

There has also been talk of Conax being hacked on the Diablo cam

I wouldn't be suprised if the Telenor stuff on 1w will soon be open to this receiver

You shouldn't have any problems with Southern satellite either as there hasn't been as far as i am aware any reports of any major problems since he started on this forum

Thats very kind of you, but I think I would rather do it for myself. Lets face it I will have to do it for myself at some time and would rather learn as I am going along. I will give you a call towards the end of the week.

I've spent the whole of last week trying to convince the misses that "it's not just porn" I want a new satellite dish for and I will me dammed if I'm going to admit it on a public forum. (She might be reading)

About these CAM's, my understanding of these is that the CAM carries the encryption protocol. Then the card inside of them will have the key. Would this be right or have I miss read something?

There is no porn whatsoever, you have to buy a card to watch it.

Yes you are right that the Cam does sort of carry the encryption protocols. Common ones are the likes of Nagravison, Conax, Irdeto etc etc

The card basically allows the receiver to open up the encryption by updating the keys to the system. This key is usually sent to the card on one of the frequencies shared with a Tv broadcast or radio broadcast

You won't need a cam with this reciever to be honest. What is usually open on the cams is normally open sooner or later on the TM

I'm sure MCT and Sexview were open on CW not so long back Robbo (CW- Constant Control word)

MCT was open a few weeks ago on the T-Rex supermodul 4.6, using the security update, but it wasn't CW, and it only lasted a week or so.
Sex View is currently AU with the Diablo Cam, but again not CW.

Well lets hope that she doesn't read this then

Just a couple more questions.

Is the firmware patch a patch applied by the receiver? Or is it a new/modified firmware that replaces the factory one?

From what I have read the motor will rotate 45 degrees in each direction. Have I got this right? If so its time to break out the chainsaw, that tree will be in the way

BTW Thanks for the help so far guys, really appreciate it.

First, I would like to reiterate robbo's statement. There is definitely no porn available without a very very expensive subscription. I think Mickha has got a little mixed up here.

Yes - the patch replaces the original firmware.

If keys change then you can load the new data in the form of a key file or softcam

A new patch is normally only released if a new 'package' becomes available, or if an existing one stops working for a reason more complex than a key change.

All will become clear once you look into doing it in detail.

The motor will go from 70 east to 70 west although you can set hard limits on the motor to set this as low as 20 degrees either way, or you can set soft limits on the receiver. In reality 45e to 45w is more than enough. There is little beyond this and once past 60 degrees the satellites start to become too low down to see as they start to fall below the horizon.

Think I just about coming to terms with this. I should say that I do not foresee any problems with the software side of things, at least as soon as I get the basic principals understood. ( I have spent many a day debugging garage software for clients.)

Mmmmmm, so I can go to 60 degrees each way. That will be 2 trees for the chop then I just hope you can live with yourself

Are the factory firmwares open source? or are they reverse engineered?
If open can someone point me in the direction of the code as I wouldn't mind taking a look.
