Hello,
I have a friend in italy and he's going to subscribe to sky calcio and send me the smart card, but before he does that I want to know if I can get the signal for sky in Saudi ? I know a guy who can get sky by just plugging his internet cable to the reciever without a subscription, although the guys from sky said that I cant get the signal in the middle east !! I'm a little bit confused here, so sould I subscribe or not ? thanks |

Hi mate, welcome to Tachwatch, hope you have a good stay here and we are of some help to you.
I would imagine that your friend has a Deambox and is card sharing, from your description of the way he gets Calico. I would find out what receiver your friend has and then ask him what size his dish is. If you have an idea of what make of receiver your friend has please let us know. If your friend is receiving Calico on a satellite receiver then there is no reason you should not be able to get it also, if you get a dish the same size as his or even bigger. Very best regards Wez

Sky Italia is carried on Hotbirds 7A & 8. According to both the Eutelsat and Lyngsat websites both have coverage onto at least the northern half of Saudi Arabia, although the dish size needed seems unclear - somewhere in the range of 1.5m -1.8m seems to be indicated. Talk to the local installers before purchase.

Certainly looks possible having a quick look at one of the Sky footprints.

kerrywez Thank you very much for the welcome and for your post.
I just talked to him via messenger and he said his reciever is a DreamBox 500 and he is card sharing as you mentioned. And the dish size is 80 cm. Analoguesat & robbo71 Thank you for your posts. |

Hi again, can you please tell me where he is located, i.e. is he in Europe or in Saudi, please?
I hope that you can get a dreambox also and have all the channels you want unlocked. It would be possible for you to have a motorised dish and you could pick up many more satellites, but if you are needing a big dish it might be a wee bit difficult for you to get the polar mount for a big dish now, but I am sure all is possible if your pockets are deep enough, big dishes on their own can be expensive enough, but in Saudi they might not be that expensive. Good luck with your dish and if we can be of any more help please do let us know. I would like to know where your friend is located anyway, so we can figure your dish size, I mean if he is also in Saudi and gets Hotbird on a dish of 80cms, then you should also be able to get it with the same size dish. Very best regards Wez

Yes, he is in Saudi Arabia and in the same city.
and I was considering getting a reciever that unlocks such channels, but I have a satellite internet, so when it rains or there is a strong wind it dissconnects, so It would be frustrating if it dissconnects when i'm watching the match. Thanks again Wez. |

We are here to help friend, but it is very nice to be thanked.
If your friend is getting Calico on a 80Cm dish I would really recommend that you go for a 1 or 1.1Mrt dish, both can be driven by a good rotor and you will then be able to get loads of satellites, from your location I would expect that you will be well able to receive Indian and Pakistan Satellites with no trouble. A good motor would cost you about €55 or so, I can send you the address of a shop in Germany where I got mine if you would like me to. The receiver that you need to get will be a Dreambox, either the 500s, 500s +. You could go for the 600, which can have a HDD fitted for recording to, but you can only record the channel you are watching, it also uses the new Enigma 2. You can go for the 7020, which can also have a HDD fitted and it has twin tuners which means that you can record one channel while watching another, as long as they are both on the same satellite. Then there is the 7025, it is the same as the 7020, but it has the Enigma and has a better tuner and bigger memory. The new 800 and 8000, dreamboxes are not released yet, but they will be HD and have the same ability to record as the 7025. If you are going to go for any of the twin tuner dreamboxes you will also need a twin output LNB for your dish, but these are not very expensive, not that more than a single output one. The 500s boxes have been copied and they are not recommended. Of the boxes the 7025 would be your best bet, but it is on the expensive side. You should ask your friend where he got his and take it from there, but if you are going for anything other than the new 800/8000 or the 7025 then you might get a copy/clone and some of them have been wrecked over the past few days, by software in an image, so please make sure you are getting a genuine one if it is not the 800/8000 or the 7025. If your friend is not having any trouble with his 500s then you could always try the place where he got his from, it is not likely to be a clone if his is OK. I hope this is of help to you and please let me know how you are getting on with your project, I will be very interested to see how you get on. Very best regards Wez
