Default Silly question - Transponder frequencies - Confused

Hi

I live in Spain & receive sky signal via 1.9m dish.

I have upon advise changed the transponder frequency in the installer menu to 12129.

what i do not understand is why ?

the standard tranpsponder frequency produces no signal.

if i look at the astra frequency charts under 12129 only about 10 or so channels appear.

if thats the case why do i get loads of channels.

i am trying to understand the relationship of transponder frequency and the channels received.

can someone enlighten please.

thanks

robin...

Hi,
I assume that you have a Sky Digibox?

These receivers are peculiar in that they need to receive certain information from Sky to keep the box working and the software up to date etc. This is done on some certain transponders. The box needs to pick one of them up.
The other channels you are receiving are coming from the other transponders that you can pick up, you are not just receving the one you mention.

There are data streams which carries the epg info for sky boxes. If the box cant get the "default" one - which is on a north beam footprint the sky box wont start up as it cant access the epg info. So folk in spain switch to one transmitted on the south beam.

The change should only have to be made after a power failure or the box gets unplugged..
