Well a mac looks better and yes people think these are "lightning quick" but thats because they ship out with some new hardware, however you can buy PC's with much better hardware for the same price as an apple macintosh. The PC market is dominated by cheap people-that is why some PC's have rubbish specs-whereas Mac's can cost £1000? And the hardware on a mac is probably not as good as the hardware on a £1000 PC

As waqasahmed said... But, with a twist.

By all means go for a crappy Mac, which will make you look like a snob with no clue, but go better, get yourself a PC, and run a far superior OS on it like Linux.
0 viruses, 0 problems, and runs less things than Windows will ever dream of, making it faster and more efficient.

If you want to use windows applications, run it within either WINE depending on the program, or run a VBox with whatever flavour of windows you wish inside, allowing you to do something of a dual mode, linux as your OS with a windows usable background.
Will look cool, but will also work 100% better than windows on its own, since you control the windows environment through the linux program.

That way, you can have a decent OS, with still being able to play windows based games on your linux PC!

If you want to try something different try Ubuntu, or for something slightly familiar go for Kubuntu.

Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu
Kubuntu | linux for human beings | Kubuntu

Both free to download, free to copy, share, modify and distribute to friends, plus it works extremely well with NTSC partitions

Hope this helps!

Where did you get your Mac from? eBay? Was it sold as faulty? If you got it from an auction site like eBay and it wasn't sold as faulty then you can complain to paypal(most of the time)

If it isn't powering on there are these possible faults(and maybe others but I cant think of any more )

It needs charging
The charger needs a new fuse/you need a new charger
You need a new battery
You need a new dc power socket
You need an internal PSU because your's has blown(if such a thing exists)
You need to check if connections are not loose between the screen and the rest of the laptop

I hate to be brutally honest, but if neither of you have a clue about a POS like a Mac, why buy one? Come on, don't buy what you no nothing about... Try another power adapter, removing the battery and plugging in the power and try turning on, then also try holding the power button down. What Mac is it? As you can tell I'm not fond of Macs for a few varied reasons, so your best off trying to do a few simple things. Another thing to try is to simply take it to a pc shop and get them to try another charger and battery individually. Usually this helps to determine where the fault lies. When your friend plugs the charger in, does it light up green? Thats the only good thing about a mac, the plug itself should turn green when you plug it in, beforehand it'll be orange showing no connection. Apart from that, sell it and get something your more used to.

I bought a dbox when I knew nothing about linux receivers.(I wanted a bigger challenge) In this case, the point stands, but in my case it doesn't stand

Thats true...

I mean in the general state though.

Don't buy something out of your league of knowledge unless you wish to learn something. Which is where I went from Windows, to Apple then finally settling on Linux.

I wanted something to learn, motivate me, and make me better at something than I am. However I don't go out of my way to do something I personally am not comfortable to do.

I'm confident with Phones and IT, just because of this, doesn't make me a Phone Engineer, or happy to tinker with electrics in a house.
Bad analogy, but you get my point.

Just stick with what you know, trust and feel comfortable with.

Anyway, back to packing up my life and doing this damned move!

Obviously spelling Macintosh is a problem.

Macs have got some upper hands over PC's, don't get me wrong, they give you cheaper upgrades for their OS's than Windows, and less complications due to it being derived from Linux.
Just a shame stupid snobs don't figure out a better OS is Linux, which is free anyway.

The amount of people I've had to reinstall their Mac's cause they mess them up, not to mention swap them over to Linux, its untrue!

Or...

Having them want to use the Mac hardware with windows.

Just get a damned standard system bud, as I said above, go with what you know and trust, and ultimately feel comfortable!
If you want to learn, go for new things, if you want comfort and less hassle stay at home!
