I have no experience of your box or set-up but just a few questions first.
1. What sockets have you on your NTL box .
2. What sockets have you on your DVD Recorder.
3. How are you connected to your tv etc.

Most if not all cable boxes have 2 scart sockets. One for tv connection and one for recorder connection.

If that's the case then need scart to recorder socket to dvd euro input socket then cable box tv socket to tv and dvd tv socket to other tv in euro socket, then on the dvd recorder remote there should be an input button to change from ordinary tv channels to aux inputs,of which the cable box channels will be an alternative.
