Yes, lower the elevation of the dish down a bit as well.

I fine tuned my LNB by rotating it in its clip, very small increments. I found two maximums but one had a higher scan result. The arm holding the LNB was fixed by two bolts I got extra quality by packing out the upper bolt with folded cardboard then when I got the optimum thickness I replaced it with a number of brass washers.
I am new to the game and followed the instructions from this forum and am well pleased with the results.

I dont have a mini dish, but I would surgest unless the dish is under
some sort of cover cardboard will disolve,it may be your dish is just out of alinment, the more you play with it the more you learn, dont forget
at each slight tweek of the lnb it takes a few seconds to get the signal to the set. or in fact to the meter if you use one.

Five years ago I did not have a clue, you soon get the hang.

Question Re: Installing your own Freesat satellite dish and save £80.

Hi folks,

I have just got a 42" LG TV with in built freesat

I am a complete novice, and am looking forward to picking up those sats . From what I can gather on this useful site, my dish (which I have still to buy) should point at 142.14* with an elevation of 20.54* based on my lat and long. at home (55.28N / 04.38W)
Now is that 142.14* magnetic (as per my compass) or 142.14* True (137.14* Magnetic) after the local magnetic variation( about 5 degrees) has been applied?

thanks

It dosen't really matter because no dish has a bracket accurate enough to be able to line up with the figures alone. The best way is to point the dish in generally the right direction and then move it slowly while monitoring the signal. 1 degree makes a differance so you have to be fairly accurate, but with a bit of patience you will get it.

I am trying to set it up now. The TV is showing 100% max on strength and changing to 20 30 40 50 % etc , and quality nothing to speak of, 10% briefly

I used the sat tuner and a compass to line up the direction initially

Guess I will keep trying

How long does the tv take to find the sats on initial set up ? I take it my connections are ok if its showing strength? Maybe I am set up on the wrong sats as the tv cant find them !

thanks

It's the quality that matters, the strength could be at 80% with the dish pointed at the floor. It will take a second for the tv meter to update so Ideally you need to see the TV while you move the dish around slowly.
