Default North Ireland TV in the Republic

My friend lives about 3 to 5 miles outside Newry in the Republic. Is it possible for him to get TV from the north of Ireland i.e. Freeview. If it is what will equipment will he need.

Looking at a map if its Newry in the Wicklow/Carlow/Wexford triangle theres not a hope in hell of getting anything off the Northern Ireland transmitters.

However a satellite solution would work nicely.

Ah in that case theres probably every chance

You would need an appropriate aerial pointing at a transmitter carrying the DTT signals. It looks like Divis is the best bet.

Hi mate, I should think that it would be no problem at all receiving it, as long as he is not in some hollow or is behind a hill or something like that. He would need either a STB or a TV with built-in freeview.

Very best regards Wez

he should be able to, i used to live in Balbriggan & Swords Co. Dublin & we got all Northern Ireland channels but not five. when i was living in Balbriggan as we were only 200 meters from the sea in hot weather we also got the Welsh channels. when i was living in Swords we got the Northern Ireland channels using an fm radio wire aerial with not much interference. almost everyone in Ireland can & does get the Northern Ireland channels minus five. however for Freeview he'l need a pretty big antenna or at least a high gain one.
