Default Pixellation / Breakup of Pic..Just Started

Hi all,

I've had my EV Max 2008 since Sept last year and it's been fine but recently the picture on Sports1, Premiere, Nat Geo has been breaking up, popping sound etc..basicallly unwatchable. I've tried fine tuning as per the posts on improving picture but it hasn't helped. I think my signal strength on these channels must be just on the cusp of poor quality at 73%...late at night this goes up to 75% and the breakup is only slight. I think this has started with the 10/04 update but can't be sure, it may just be specific to me.

Can anyone advise the best way to resolve please? Also, i've notice signal boosters on fleabay for £24.00 (yellow Konig ones) and also ones for £3.99 that seem to come from HK. Is there a requirement to get the more expensive one..i noticed the Konigs make a point of mentioning the return path???

Thanks in advance,

Shaun

Hiya Shaun, When I bought my EuroVox MavV last year I started to have this problem after 3 weeks of having the box, I went into Argos and bought a signal booster (3in one) It was about 24euros. It did the trick for ages until the problem with the codes started up a few weeks ago! Now thanks to the great people working here & their excellent guides I've updated my box, everything fine, then I noticed my signal with the booster was at 8%. I read through the posts and I found one from telecom69 (I think that was his name!) & he recommended taken out the booster & doing a powerscan, It worked a treat for me, I hope this is a bit of help to you too! Also make sure you have No splitters connected as this could be the cause! Let us know how you get on!
Best of luck
Tanya...

Cheers Tanya for the info.

I only have 1 splitter connected, that's to split my cable modem and take a feed to the EV. The splitter is fitted after the isolator where it enters the house.

I reckon something has changed which has just taken my signal under an acceptable level to maintain a stable pic on these channels (prob my new neighbours getting CATV installed)

I don't have any amplifier at the moment, so i reckon giving one a go won't hurt..the question is, do i get a £24 one of one of the £3.99 ones

Hiya Shaun,
I would recommend getting the one for £24 as my mum-n-law bought the exact same one (at the same time as me!) and hers is still working fine for her. Also what signal are you getting at the moment? To find out double click info on your remote control. Is it still at 70%? I don't use a splitter anymore! I have an extra point in one of the bedrooms & I drilled a hole down through the ceiling to the front sitting room to connect my pc. Do you have any extra points in your house that you could use?

Hi Tanya,

It's between 74 and 75%..and all is well. When i was watching yesterday and on Sat it was down to 71 - 72 %, so i think it's just going under the acceptable level. I don't have any extra points as i originally just got broadband and had it connected to a spare bedroom.

Thanks for the tips..i'll let you know how i get on.

Cheers,

Shaun

There were a few signal problems experienced by people using the 10/4/08 firmware and this was resolved by updating to 18/4/08 release.

Suggest you update your box again. If the problem persists, try changing the Signal Booster setting under the TV Settings on your box.

If that still doesn't work then maybe look to getting a booster (I believe argos sell em 4 bout £16 and peeps have been happy with those)/

Hi Shaun, here is the booster that I bought...http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/store...Number=5346903
It's a good one & quite reasonable also! Although I would suggest that you update your firmware as Lucky13 says to the 18/04/08 before you get the booster to see if that solves your problem. I'll drop by later to see how your getting on.
Best of luck

Hi guys,

I'm getting similar results with both updates. I noticed the issue on Saturday when i was on 10/04 on i updated on the afternoon to 18/04. Looking at my cable modem, the Downstream signal seems very low at -15Db, but i've never had any issues with it disconnecting or with any channels on the Eurovox previously. Looking at it tonight, it seems fine and is between 74 / 75%..so it's obviously when it drops that 1 or 2 % that i get issues.

I'll monitor things for a couple of days then invest in a booster.

Cheers,

Shaun

Hi Lucky,

I haven't tried updating again but i have tried the signal booster both on and off. Would it really make a difference reflashing again since i've seen the issue on both 10/04 and 18/04 updates? I'm happy to give it a go though.

Cheers,

Shaun
