Question Is there any form of "special" firmware for freeview?

Hey all,

Been here for a while for my dodgy cable box needs and enjoy the discussions on technology and whatever although this is my first post. Anyway, on with the issue...

Just bought a Woolworth's Worthit freeview box for my flat at university. I noticed however that there is a 9 pin port marked "service" which I assume is for plugging into the computer to update the firmware. So I have three questions, and I think I know the answer to one of them but here goes anyway.

1: Is there anywhere I can check for Woolies firmware updates?
2: Will any firmware work on the box and/or generic firmware? If so, where can I find it?
3: is there perhaps some..."special"/"decrypting"/"hacked" firmware for the freeview to receive encrypted channels?

I ask the third, because I have a euro*** at home and I concluded that since it ships without firmware, there must be people working on this sort of thing.

Curiosity killed the cat...

You need to find the make and model and do a search on that. Possibly in the system setup there will be some info somewhere

Unlikley in the extreme, and if you try and load firmware from another box onto it you are almost certain to wreck it.

No You want = you pay for it. There was a pid hack for one of the slapper channel on some boxes a year or so back but I have no idea if its still available

yeah, I noticed that about keygens and what have you. Sounded like something that would be fixed exceptionally quickly.

Well thanks for the speedy reply (I was expecting to get flamed ) and off I go in search of updated, official (boooooo!) firmware.

You might just need to leave it connected - many of the boxes auto update these days -or can be triggered from within the menu system.

there was an online key gen for Television X/Red Hot which worked for about six months until the site was taken down.
