Default Re: Mvision S4 ::: Spanish TDT Setup Help Needed

I am not Slys biggest fan, the contrary would be the case.

There are many boxes out there with PVR capabilities, the dreambox 7000 series being some of them. The dreambox can be a very difficult box to master, but the rewards are huge. It really depends how deep your pockets are and how good your PC skills are.

The best I could suggest would be that you read all you can before making your mind up. I would never sell my dreamboxes, but getting on top fo them is never easy.

Hope this has been of help and please do check all you can about PVR boxes and might I suggest that you consider a HD box as well. The AB IPBox 9000 HD box, the support can only grow for them, the only thing is that they are, like the dreamboxes, quite expensive. The new dreambox 800/8000, both HD and PVR will be released very soon.

Very best regards Wez

Have you got a budget in mind?
The Topfield pvrs are at the expensive end,but easy plug n play receivers, and you can install additional software called TAPs.
They even come with twin tuners(depending on model) e.g TF4000PVR+ is available from our sponsors(Southern Satellite) for £210 on Ebay
If you send a PM,you might get a discount.
Southern Satellite is also selling this MVision S4 Pvr ready by USB for £55(including delivery)

Thanks for the help both of you.
getting one from the uk is a pain, postage is around 30 pounds.
My computer skills are pretty good, not frightened by anything there.
I was looking at a second hand topfield progably from germany.
I would prefer a twin tuner as i installed two feeds especially for my sky+ box to find theyve locked it out, i was looking for a hack/crack for the firmware, dosnt seem to be anything out there.
I was at the southern satellite website great stuff but cant afford postage.
all the best, chris

If you are referring to the fact you cant record unless you have a valid card thats correct - if you arent a subscriber thenyou have to pay £10/month to have the sky+ pvr part activated. This *may* change onve PSB Freesat launches nesxt week.

There are absolutely no worthwhile hacked or cracked firmwares available for sky boxes - and probably never will be - the software details are kept very secure indeed.

You can get just the recording activated on an ftv card, but its a tenner a month as already mentioned, and you have to catch a customer support op who knows whats being asked for. Many of therm dont know about it as its somewhat unusual..

The card also has to be the right one for the box - unpaired cards wont work.

Thats correct - you have to ring up and either withold your number or use a uk mobile. DONT let them know you are abroad - if you have a sub and you let slip you are outside the UK they will immediately cancel your subscription.!

To be honest a standalone dvd or hard drive recorder is probably going to be easier, although you might want to wait for the new BBC Freesat pvr's which will be released in the summer.
