Help with Vantage 7100s

I've got one and need to update the software first. I have the HD020100.dlp file and I have the Vantage channel editor for HDTV program on my PC. I also have a nul modem usb lead.

First problem, I can not get the software on the PC talk to the STB. I have a weather station on the comport normally and therefore know the com port works. I have disconnected the weatherstation when trying to connect but still no joy.

I assumed it would be join PC and STB together with null modem lead, select upgrade software and watch!! Instead I get 'communication timeout'.

After I had upgraded the software I thought I could then go looking for patches to open some channels, but obviously that is on the back burner at the moment!

Finally, in its out of the box config, the radio is all jumpy like a broken cd onall radio channels.

Any helpwould be much appreciated.

On one of the german forums, translated by babelfish I found something about using a USB stick, but the translation was poor and their was no joy that way either!

i don't have the vantage hd receiver just the x221 vantage receiver.

I've looked into the patching and it is similar to the way i patch my sd vantage receiver.

when you click to update software and select the file location and then you will get a window with the transfer status.

you then switch the receiver on from the back and the software will transfer (otherwise you get the timeout message)

the file you are trying to load is an original software from vantage i see.

the patches use another program called winup2.6 to transfer to the receiver and are a different file format hdp files

Excellent help thanks. Got the Update onto the Vantage and that cured the skipping in the Radio as well!

Really ham fisted way of setting up a modern bit of equipment mind!!!

Patches...

These are used to open some channels up I understand. I shall get Winup2.6 in a minute, but what is the process next please?

first download the latest patch for the 7100s and unzip the file to your desktop

next open up winup 2.6 , click on rs232 configuration to make sure the correct com port is used and click ok.

once back on the main menu of winup 2.6 click on" upload to receiver"

next window will pop up click on the 3 dots button next to the file name box and select the file location of the patch.

make sure the bottom drop down says "program files" and then click open

next click start

then switch on your receiver from the switch on the back

once the software has been transferred the receiver will flash the new software and then reboot and go in to standby showing the clock.

then you can repeat the above but with softcam files (but selecting "key files" in the drop down list) these contain the keys to open the channels or you can enter them manually.

The softcam files appear to be dated. Does this mean they should be uploaded daily?

What channels do these keys open?

For example is it possible to get the Discovery channels decrypted?

Is there a place on the web where these details are all collated?

yes the key files are dated as quite a few providers change the access keys every day or every two days etc which means you have to load the new file whenever needed

* these are favourite among satellite viewers due to english audio option on films and some sports
Digi tv 1 west does have discovery channels with english audio option.

** polsat has english language bbc channels and hbo channels with english sound option, even eurosport 1 & 2 international is available on this package

websites such as lyngsat.com or flysat.com are good for looking up the frequencies of the open packages or listing whether the channels have any english audio options.
