Default Hmmm, I wonder if...

Hi all, I have wandered in here from the Eurovox section - I am usually in there solving my Dad's problems.

As the name suggests, there is no cable supply near me so I am Stuckwithsky!

Anyway, i know nothing about satellite receivers but have been looking to answer this question. As I already have a Sly subscription and a Sly+ LNB I wondered if there is a box which I can get to receive the full package on another tv in the house?

Cheers

Technically yes - its called a linux box with a card share connection, but you have to be a member of a card share ring to benefit - (getting into one is the difficult bit, as normally you have to bring a full subs card from one of the other sat packages to it - and often its the more obscure packages that are wanted = more expensive!)

Apart from that theres no way to get sky for free.

If you already have the full package the easiest way to do it is just to get multiroom

It could be done but you would need two linux receivers both connected to your home network. one to read and share the card and the other to receive the shared card keys via your home network so you could view the channels in the other room.
the out lay at first would be quite high and getting to grips with a linux box at first isn't easy (believe me im still trying...lol) but it can be done.

Hi mate, Let me extend my sincere sympathy to you for your very sad situation, not having anything other than Sly.

As you can't get cable, I would like to know if you have broadband, I am not being nosey, but if you intend to go card sharing you will need always on broadband, if you do not have it then you should not even contemplate trying.

Just a thought, before you get too much into reading upon the subject of C/S.

Very best regards Wez

But he only wants to share his own card between rooms in his own house, so he wont need to join a card sharing ring. all he will need is a home network to allow the two boxes to communicate with one another.
at least thats how it reads to me

Thanks for the replies - I appreciate the honesty in pointing me to multiroom! Mr Murdoch would be proud of you!!

I do have broadband, but living 10miles from exchange means I have the slowest connection speed in Warrington! Yes my house is in a technology black-hole!!!

Thanks for taking the time though!

Nothing wrong with Murdoch, you would do the same if you were in his position.

Fortunately for future of my soul Im not on the Murdoch payroll.

We never know the technical abilities of our members, and for many folk the easiest way to get what you want is just to bite the bullet and pay the fee for multiroom. I'll always suggest the easy fix first
