Default emulators

Hi brainy people, just got a dreambox set up and tuned in fine. But I'm told I can get more channels if I download and install emulators and keys. I have them downloaded to my PC but don't know how to install them. Anyone like to tell me what comes next?
Thanks

Hi Noel,
Welcome to the forums hope we can help.

First thing is what image are you running?

You will find that the Gemini image is by far the easiest image to use, but unless you are very sure you have a genuine DMM box, do not use the 4.3.1/431 version of the image or you will have to do some work to get your box to work again, because the image will stop it working. If you are in any doubt about your box, just use the 4.20 image it is fine.

It would help if you said what box you are using.

Please let us know what version of the box you have, 500s, 500+, 600 or the 7000 series. Also what image you are using.

I am sure we an help you when you provide the information.

Very best regards Wez

Hi Wez,
Great to hear from you. My machine is a 500s and the image is Gemini. I have downloaded emulators Mgcamd and Dreamcamd for Gemini to my PC. I just don't know what to do next. Thanks for your interest.
All the best,
Noel

FTP the unzipped .tar file to /tmp on your dreambox and do a manual install:

Blue Panel > addons > manual install

CCcam is probably the best all round emu. If your box has an internet connection you can install an emu from:

Blue Panel > addons > download and install > cam

Great, thanks, mhuk, but that's the problem, how to FTP th file. Is it some software I need? I have Dreambox Control Centre, but it does not seem to be able to make a connection, though dreamup made the connection to load the img file. I tried both null modem connection and an ethernet cable. Maybe I need the PC, dreambox and TV connected all at the same time?
Hope you can help.
REgards,
Noel

Hi noel,
Get the software called Dreambox Control Centre, set it up and run it. you might need to go to the expert set up and then to communication set up. You then need to uncheck the box that says DCHP, then go to the top line, ip address, and enter 192.168.0.24, next line enter 255.255.255.0, in the next line gateway you can leave it s it is or change it to 192.168.0.1 and the final line enter 192.168.0.1. Make sure LAN is enabled and save.

When you open the DCC it will connect to your box, next click on the temp folder and when it is open find where you put your EMUs and highlight the ones you want, only use two as the memory in the 500s is not the biggest. The EMU files need to be tar.gz ones for this to work, If you make a new folder for each EMU you have downloaded and name them as the EMU is named and then extract the zip/win rar file to that folder, you should find a tar.gz file in there.

You need to hit the blue button, on the remote, and then hit 2, now scrool down to the manual install, hit the OK button, you should now see the two EMUs, go to one highlight it and then hit the green button twice and that EMU should install for you, now do the same with the next EMU. I would suggest that you use Mgcamd and Cccam, there was a new Mgcamd EMU released two days ago, V1.30.

If you would like to save your self the trouble of scanning all the satellites, get software called DreamboxEdit and run it, then go and find a settings file, I use Captain Picard's Settings and find it very good.

Good luck and please do not hesitate to ask if you get stuck, but you should be fine.

Very best regards Wez
