So when I started looking into another toy.. I was after an SD box to get as many channels on as I wanted. I've just got myself a Sly HD box and was really shocked at the picture quality !!
So.. I then wanted another HD box for "other stuff". So I then got onto thinking about what else I want to do.. and hence joining this lovely forum. So here's my question (finally).. will the new Dreambox 8000 all the following ? Watch the FTA stuff as well as other channels. Will I be able to upgrade the HDD inside for recording and can it be transferred to DVD or similar ?? The other "nice to have" is stream from my server, MP3 or AVI, xvid etc ?? If the answers are yes then I need one !! Thanks Rich |

When, no if, it ever gets on the shelves, I am sure the DMM8000 will do all those things. Until then we just wait.

Hi mate,
I you believe all you read then you will eat all you see and there is a lot of dog sh!t in full view everywhere. Seriously though, it has been coming out since last year and when either the 800 or 8000 do come to the shops I shall not be rushing to buy one, It will take time to have the things up to speed, there will need to be new everything for these boxes, images skins and EMUs, everything which is being developed for the other dreamboxes will need to catch up, so for that reason I don't think that the boxes will be at their best for at least 6 months. Unless some people have the boxes and are developing software for them then I would advise you to hold off buying one. I have the feeling that these boxes will not be released till the second half of the year, if then even, so I hope you are not in any rush to get your hands on one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have no faith in DMM, they talk a good receiver, but they have been going to release it for ages now and it has not appeared. Very best regards Wez

Try googling IPBox 9000 it is on the market and I am sure that if you have a look and read up on it you might find that it could well have better spec than the dreambox 800/8000 and it is a fair bit cheaper, so I am led to believe anyway. It might just do your job and it has been on sale for some months now and there is a fair bit of support for it. The only thing that it might not have that the dreambox does is the ability to card share, but it could have as I have not read up on it that much, I am just aware of it's being and that it is on sale, from other forums where I am a member. You might be surprised at what you find out about this box, it is highly recommended by some of the best image designers out there. Good luck in your search. Very best regards Wez
