hi guys i have a 1mt dish and a cryptik h2h motor driving it 45east to 45 west. if i replace this motor with a darkman metal gear this i assume will then drive my dish 80east to 80 west what extra satellites will i receive with my 1mt dish.
if i then fit my cryptik motor at my daughters house in tenerife on what satellite would i align the motor as i dont think the 1mt dish i fitted in tenerife is big enough to get 1 west. regards tjl |

you wont be able to get satellites that far east/west in the uk as they are below the horizon you will be best to stick with the motor you have at the moment
in tenerife you wont be aligning a motorised dish on 1west you will align it to the nearest satellite to your location coordinates so for example your longitiude is 8.345 west you would align the dish to Atlantic bird 2 8west those can be found from google earth or any decent map site on the web. |

Hi mate,
Wod is correct about the satellite that you need to set your dish up on, I am at 9.612W and I use the same sat to set up my dishes. You can set your dish up on al Jazeera 10972.00 V 27500 3/4, it has a very good signal and is the transponder that I use. As far as Thor goes, you are on the very edge of the coverage, in Tenarife, and you just might need a 1.2 Mtr dish and even then there is no guarantee that it would be than much good, most of the providers using Thor are on the Spot 3 beam and it would be very chancy if you would get a very good signal. The best thing to do would be to ask around and see if anyone in Tenerife has got Thor and what size their dish is. Go here and register and you will have a very good idea where the footprint of all satellites fall http://www.satbeams.com/footprints/ The Darkman motor should last much longer than an ordinary one would, because it has metal gears, whilst the normal motor would have nylon gears, but it would very much depend on what metal the gears in the Darkman motor are made from. Some cast metal gears strip every bit as easily as nylon ones do. Hope this is of help to you. Very best regards Wez
