Default Sky HD Packages vs My Own Satellite & HD Box

Hi guys,

I am VERY new to this whole satellite TV thing, so please excuse me, if you have heard the same sort of questions before. I very much do not like the thought of Paying Sky £46 a month for the sports channels in HD (plus £200 odd quid for box etc). I currently do not have Sky, but all I would like to do, is watch most of the premierhip football in HD. Please can you let me know if it is better to get my own HD reciever, and motorised dish, or go down the Sky route please? I do not mind paying out for the initial investment, but after that I would like to keep the costs down for good quality TV.

Also, which are the best HD recievers & dishes please?

Thanks guys.

If you like watching premiership football then you have nearly missed the boat.

Whilst sky shows some football it cannot show matches during the afternoon on saturdays whereas some continental channels do.

The best option at present is the Supersports channels on the satellite(s) at 16E. You will need to buy a viewing card to get those channels and at present the card will work in almost any card reading receiver. However, Digitalb have stated that the arrangement will be changing such that cards with be paired with specific receivers and will not work in other receivers. I think this may be a bit of scare mongering but time will tell.

I dont have a HD receiver so I will leave recommendations to those who have.

I am thinking about buying an HD "PVR READY" receiver and a motorised 80cmdish kit (this should be ok for London am told).
This to get freesat (the BBC/ITV one, not sky's)... BUT to have sports as well.

Digitalb is not in HD but I hear the quality is ok most of the time? Any further details regarding your experiences with SuperSports?

I ask these questions as i dont want to fork out for the expensive kit, having read above that Digitalb will "marry" the cards to specific receivers. Will this affect me anyway?

DigitAlb have already married cards to receivers for the HD channels. At the moment the solution is unclear, apart from using an official Kaon receiver only available from Albania/DigitAlb.It is advertised on their channels.
