What I don't understand is, that for 40 quid you can do exactly the same thing with a SKY Box off ebay and then order a FTV card and get Channel 5 too.
Unless you want HD that, which is understandable. Why all the rush and panic?

Is there a rush and panic though? i think this has been a fare while in the planning.
I think the fact is that The British Psb's want to get away from having to pay sky to be carried on their EPG (or at least i think thats part of it). So the question is will these channels actually dissapeer from sky in the future? |

The Sky boxes may be Shite, but I bel;ieve they are currently the best option for SD at least - they can get all the FTA channels and the FTV with a card.
Now when Freesat gets all the FTA channels on the EPG (or makes them easy to add) and 5 goes FTA, then the Freesat boxes will be a better option for non-subscribers

The Humax Foxsat Freesat HD receiver at least includes the following specs # Can I use my current satellite dish? Yes, if you have a working satellite dish that you current use for UK satellite broadcasts (e.g. S*y) then you can replace your existing equipment for a Foxsat-HD # Can I add channels that are not available through freesat? Yes, the Foxsat-HD has a freesat mode and a non-freesat mode. Please visit the Advanced Section for more information. # Can I connect it to a Multi satellite system? The Foxsat-HD product can be used with a DiSEqC 1.0 / 2.0 switch or a DiSEqC 1.2 motorised System. # I have a motorised Satellite Dish, can I use it? Yes, you can use a Motorised dish (DiSEqC 1.2 or USALS) No need for those crap dodgy boxes. Very best regards Wez

But are these boxes brand spanking news, out of an unopened package. All the sky boxes I see around are 2/3/4/5 refurbs.
I may be wrong never had a sky box, but the freesat boxes are new and if I was just going SD, I would prefer the brand new gear. Neighbour had Sky installed for his daughter who moved back, he called me round to have a look before skyvanman left, I informed my neighbour the didgibox was a refurb(white box with nothing on it) box also marked. Neighbour asked for a new box, skyvanman said boxes are free, and that was all he had, neighbour told him to take the dish down, skyvanman went away and returned an hour later with what appreared a new box. Skyvanman admitted, Sky tell installers to fit refurbs for cost saving, he thought I was in the trade ![]() So all those on E Bay, to me are junk. Bob |

That junk! (Grundig Sky receiver, £10 E**y) got me back into sat receiving (to utilise the minidish left on my new residence).
I've had analogue at a previous residence, but there were only a handful of channels left when I moved out so didn't bother further with it. I already had an interactive keyboard for the Sky, so wasn't worried it came without a handset, and subsequently picked up a clone handset from a street stall for a couple of pounds. For the very reasons of Sky box EPG and limited non-EPG channel storage, I have replaced the Grundig with the Apollo FTA, and will continue to use that maybe with a motorised dish, and until I can add a Freesat (maybe HD) PVR.
