I assume it is the dodgybox you are referring to, they are junk, good for nothing other than Sly. You can't use them for any other satellite, they only hve two symbol rates 22000 and 27500, so what good are they. You can't use another card in the slot. You can't drive a motor with one.

All in all they are useless for anything other than Astra 2.

Very best regards Wez

I've had analogue at a previous residence, but there were only a handful of channels left when I moved out so didn't bother further with it.

I already had an interactive keyboard for the Sky, so wasn't worried it came without a handset, and subsequently picked up a clone handset from a street stall for a couple of pounds.

For the very reasons of Sky box EPG and limited non-EPG channel storage, I have replaced the Grundig with the Apollo FTA, and will continue to use that maybe with a motorised dish, and until I can add a Freesat (maybe HD) PVR.
Fine if it works, but I bet it cost as much or more to get it delivered,Ill
stick to new FTA or Freesat gear, guarantee and with freesat postage
is free,just collect it

I have 4 sky boxes from ebay some of them over 10 years old and un re furbished, still going strong with no problems. I agree at the moment a sky box and FTV card is the best for SD and ease of use.

Horses for courses, but with sky boxes you are stuck with astra 28 as in fact I presume are the freesat boxes.

But due to the number of failures according to skyvanman, I would not touch sky boxes with a lunge line. All I can say and repeat is the freesat boxes are guaranteed and dont cost postage if bought local

We beg to differ

it will still take time for the advertiseing to go into gear. once in gear we hope thats its a success. even if its just a small thorn in Sky s side..But have a feeling there success will depend on HD getting into real action. sports and films are the answer. with the olympics comeing soon. the question is still what is Eurosport doing ??

Hi lads I have just seen this from ITV, regarding their HD channel.

ITV HD is scheduled to begin broadcasting its regular schedule on Freesat, accessible solely via ITV's red button interactive services, in "a few weeks", it was confirmed today.

Freesat managing director Emma Scott said ITV would be releasing further details of its high definition channel, and commence full broadcasting, in "hopefully a few weeks time".

She confirmed it would be accessible via the red button rather than given an individual EPG slot and that it would initially be viewable exclusively on Freesat equipment.

ITV executive chairman Michael Grade said: "We will launch our HD service with an unrivalled line up of premium football including the FA Cup, England internationals and UEFA Champions League from next season."

Grade did not rule out negotiations for carriage on Sky in the future, however, and said: "We are a commercial organisation and won't give it to Sky for nothing."

Humax, whose Freesat personal video recorder is expected to be the first available when it is released some time in the summer, said it would be able to record ITV HD.

Good read, hope they keep Sly waiting for ever.

Very best regards Wez

i am really bewildred why ITV has done this.(red button) to gain access to the HD service. very strange and in my view not a good idea at all if they wish to take viewers away from sky s own HD (laugh!) service. to be successful FREESAT has to out do sky"s own service. they have a good base "its free" there appears to be a good range of recievers. But the minute yu try to reduce the amount of viewers by doing what ITV appears to have done. (dont think CH4 has done this !). its bad news for the viewers ! Come on ITV open up your HD service to everyone.

Yes just read it ,that seems very good, disq on it as well full marks.

You are right Wes for the money this Humax sounds good, I am learning all the time, I was not aware the freesat recievers were in this instance multi
sat, this knocks spots off the doggyboxes.

Me like a few others have foolishley thought the freesat boxes were for Astra 28 only, Ill give you double thanks for this info, BBC/ITV HD and overseas FTA HD as well, good on you. and no subscription

I must also learn to read previous pages.

Apparantly, using the Fortec Passion HD Box, users can receive the ITV HD stream, so it doesn't look so exclusive at all....

Not tried it myself as of yet, but i will as soon as i can, and i'll report back..
